It has felt like winter for the last month and more with the cooler temperatures and dreary days of cloud and most days rain. After today I will be looking forward to Spring even if it is far off. A person has to have hope, right?
Not much is happening around here this last week before Christmas. Kate, our granddaughter, has invited us for Christmas dinner. That's something to look forward to.
Cookies have all been made. Last year I handed over the job of making the centers for the chocolate dipped peanut butter balls (also known as Buckeyes) over to my sons. This year they made them twice the size of last years but since the guys are the reason for making these cookies in the first place who minds how big they are.
Once the centers were frozen I did the dipping. I'm a messy dipper.
It's almost 9 and if the rain has stopped I'm going for my walk. I hope your day holds some lovely moments. GM
They look mouth wateringly delicious! I have never heard of them being called "Buckeyes" before.

My former neighbor used to make those balls; she called them Jingle Balls. I made them once myself, and I am not a good dipper, either. That is funny, how the guys probably unconsciously made the job faster, and with man-size Buckeyes the result. Buckeyes is a fitting name!

Your sons went for the Turbo Buckeyes! I recall my son stacking the two Reese's Peanut Butter Cups atop each other and eating them up that way with ease! First husband loved Buckeyes, and in Ohio (his home state) they are very popular indeed, probably because of the sports team. Did you know that carrying a buckeye (the nut) in your pocket brings luck?

ReplyDeleteOh, GM, I LOVE buckeyes!! Your sons have good taste :) My mother used to make them, but the centers were very dense -- good, but thick and peanut buttery. Then this year a friend made some, and she put 2 of them into a goodie bag. I bit into one of them ... and OH MY!!! They were fabulous! I asked about the recipe, and she said she kind of blended various recipes and didn't remember exactly what she'd done. But the centers were not as dense, more crunchy, like they had some sort of dry cereal in them, like corn flakes. Still PB flavored, but a more fun texture. Anyway, just a thought, since you are a good and creative baker, and might want to give that a shot. Also -- it's smart to make those balls twice the size, because then you don't have to dip as many, haha!!!
