Snow and Sunday's Walk

We got a surprise snowfall yesterday. After a night and morning of heavy rain the temperature began to fall and beautiful snow flakes began to fall.  It was so lovely. I sat with my cup of coffee and enjoyed watching knowing that it wouldn't last long. We did get 12 cm (maybe 5"). Today it is very slushy outside and too slippery for a walk.

I took the pictures out the front door. Not great pics but you get the idea.

We had quite a lot of rain last week and on Sunday when we went walking on a different path wesaw many Wood Ducks. Too bad they were hiding behind weeds in the water and I could only get a picture of this one. They sure are lovely looking birds.

At this point the water was over the path and we had to turn back.

One last picture. It's hard to see them but there are a number of Bush Tits clustered on the suet.  They  are such funny little birds. They come as a small flock and flit back and forth from the suet to the shrubs nearby then back again.  Bush Tits and Chickadees seem to be the cheeriest of birds.

Sunrise here today was at 8:04 which is actually later than yesterday. Sunset will be at 4:15.
I heard someone on TV yesterday say that it was the shortest day of the longest year.

Thanks for coming by.  I see that Blogger is arranging my text according to its whims. I have no idea if it will stay this way once I publish. One can only hope.  GM

  1. O you have beautiful snow! Everything looks so Christmas-like! Everything changes into a clear white cloth sended from heaven - - beautiful!

A lot of rain before: We expect a lot of rain this night. :(

In the Holy night the rain will change into snow. And one day later I heard of some storm will come- -

  3. We certainly rarely have snow like that! It reminds me of Christmas in BC, where my daughter used to live.

  6. oh beautiful snow! If I know BC like it was back in early 2000s, it will all melt soon enough! Wise to not go on a walk when it is so slippery/slushy! God bless you! I do love your posts and birds are really such a joy to see (and hear!)

  7. Your snow looks so nice. We don't have any now and none is predicted until after Christmas and that's just fine with me. It IS cold though. It's supposed to be 17F tonight. Brrrr. I enjoyed seeing your duck and bird photos. We have some little birds in the tree by our door to the RV but I don't know what they are. Tiny and brown. That's all I know. :-)
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. Your snow is beautiful. We had some, too, and I made a cup of hot chocolate and curled up on the couch to watch it falling for awhile. It was so wet and slushy, though, that it's made a mess of the roads. Now for a few nice days!

  12. Well, you did have a good snowfall. We got a couple of hours of slushing here on our hill south of Seattle. That came after a torrential rain storm.
    Calmer weather now prevails.
I love the little bush tits and chickadees too.

  14. BLogger is a temperamental beast! You and I have the same porch light fixture. Mine's on my back porch/patio and is black. Wood ducks almost don't look real! So beautiful and such interesting angles to their little heads.

Thanks for the nice pictures with snow ... we get frost on Christmas Day and maybe snowflakes.
Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.
