Heat Wave and a Grad

We're experiencing a heat wave the likes of which western Canada has not known previously. Every day new records are made.  My poor shrubs and perennials are suffering greatly. I go out late in the evening and early in the morning to water the most needy ones. We don't have central A/C so the house is terribly hot. Thankfully we have a couple of window units and the free standing one although the latter hasn't been able to do much at all.

In the middle of this hot weather and with Covid restrictions still in place granddaughter C had her graduation ceremony. If you can call it that. She and her parents were given a 5 to 10 minute window of time where she would walk across the stage, have her picture taken with her parents, then whisked off . The auditorium was empty. M and I watched the proceedings here at home via live-stream.

A bit of humour in the midst of last minute details. Miss C is a smallish young woman and had been given a very large gown which trailed on the floor. Fortunately when she arrived at the school a teacher noticed the problem and quickly got her a size appropriate.

Other than the heat there's not much happening around here.  We're taking things day by day and hoping for cooler weather soon. Right now as I look at the thermometer it reads 41C which I checked, is 105.8F.

Thanks for coming by,  GM

  4. I saw your temps on the news today. I can't believe it's that hot in Canada! I'm so thankful you have some window units at least. I can only imagine how those who don't are suffering. I'm so sorry your granddaughter had such a lousy graduation, but congrats to her for graduating, still something to be very proud of! I hope it cools down there soon GM.

  6. The heat is truly overwhelming and makes it hard to think of much else. We were in Abbotsford over the weekend and my parents don't have AC. We suggested they move in with my sister who does have AC for a few days, and now they are quite comfortable. We don't have it here, either, but are sleeping in the relatively cool basement and using the travel trailer AC to cool off during the day. Hopefully this will end soon. Congratulations to your granddaughter!

  7. What a graduation these kids will have to talk about. Their senior years were pretty messed up too, weren't they?
Oh my the heat out west is terrible. We talk to friends daily who are suffering in Spokane where it's supposed to be 112 Tuesday and Wednesday. A lot of people there don't have AC either because it's usually only hot for a few days in the summer. Nothing like this year though. Records are breaking everywhere!
Meanwhile, we're still trying desperately to adjust to the humidity here. It's awful and we're used to beautiful dry mountain air. Praying for you to stay cool and enjoy every day.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. When heat like that is happening, sitting still is the best way to cope. Here, we usually don't have many days like that before the fog rolls in for as many days. I hope your ordeal is almost over!

  9. Hi G.M. Such heat is normal here for our Summer here in Australia at 40+ it is no problem. You definitely need an Air-Con for days like this...before we had ours installed we use to take turns at having a dip in our Bath (LOL)- but it worked! Hope things cool down there for you G.M. Best Wishes. KEV.

  10. 105°!!?? Gracious!! I had read that the northwest was suffering with sweltering temperatures, but I had no idea it was that bad. Do take good care of yourself and I hope this doesn't last much longer.
    Blessings, Linda

  11. My word that is hot. Such a shame that your grandaughter didn't get the graduation ceremony that she so rightly deserved, it is such a shame.

  15. That's way hot, even for us this far south. Hopefully the heat wave will be of short duration. I can imagine you are inventing all kinds of icy cold beverages. Take care!

  16. We got marine air relief last night and now the temps are much more moderate. We are at 83 at 4:00, so that's just a nice summer day.
I hope you got relief too.

  18. Good gravy, your weather is horrible! When I lived just under BC, the poor locals about died when it would reach 80, which it did only two times during that period. They had no air cooling in their homes! Furnaces, yes, they are so needed and used, but a lot of older places did not have the AC units. I hope you get relief soon. Excessive heat is dangerous and the humidity up there is just a very bad mix.
