On my way home from my walk I stopped to admire a rose bush loaded with yellow roses!!
I hadn't met the neighbour that was puttering nearby but she came over and we chatted. She said since I liked her roses and she was getting ready to go away for a few days maybe I'd like her to cut me a few, which she so kindly did. She included more roses from other bushes so I had a lovely bouquet.
Once home I saw that my Morning Glories are starting to open. These grew from seeds I gathered last year. So far I see 2 different colours but there were more so we'll see.
Something that made me a little sad was that we had to dig out and destroy an entire bed of Daylilies that were once again infested with the Gall Midge which deforms the buds by laying eggs in the buds. In spite of my efforts to cut off all the affected buds last year and the year before the damage was done and I suppose that area won't be having Daylilies in it any more. I do still have other beds where so far I don't see any deformed buds. I'm not sure just how far this pest has spread.
It's a lovely warm day here in B.C. and I have lots to do. I just came in to cool off and maybe have a cuppa before I go out and get more things done.
I hope you're having a lovely day, GM
So nice of the woman to cut those beautiful flowers for you. We meet so many nice people out walking! :)
ReplyDeleteThe roses are very pretty but I prefer your beautiful morning glories, they are a favorite of mine. Sorry about your Daylilies and sure hope it does spread to your beds. Have a great weekend GM. :)
ReplyDeleteThe morning glories are so pretty. We only have the weed kind, that awful binder weed, which we try to control but is impossible to get rid of.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your day lilies. I'd better check mine. I did see that something had ruined the buds on some of my Oriental lilies.
What a nice thing of your neighbor to do. That bouquet is lovely. Your morning glories are really pretty too. I just love the name of them! I've never heard of Gall Midge but I'm really sorry that they've destroyed your lilies.
ReplyDeleteI hope the rest of your day was lovely and you were able to accomplish all that you wanted to.
Blessings and love,
Betsy
That's too bad about your lilies being infested!! Beautiful m. Glories!! And lovely, lovely, bouquet!!
ReplyDeleteMorning Glories always remind me of holidays in Southern France, where they were climbing up so many houses. How kind of your neighbour to offer you a bunch of lovely roses.
ReplyDeleteGlad your enjoying the Summer in your Garden- those Roses from your Friend sure look nice and pretty.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful roses. So nice of her. Sorry for the other flowers.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your daylilies as I know from your previous posts in other years that you had some lovely varieties! I do hope that you will be able to plant some new ones in a different area in time! Is the Gall Midge something like the red lily beetle that comes in cycles and then disappears for a few years? Your morning glories are ever so cheerful... I had no luck in growing any seed though I bought 2 different packages yet sometimes I have had them coming up as volunteers. Your rose bouquet from your neighbor is quite lovely - are they very scented as well? Hope you have a great weekend!

Well! -- those nasty midges!
ReplyDeleteWhat a dear neighbor you have. I love the bouquet! Morning glories are among my favorite flowers. When I was a girl my mom had them climbing up around the porch. I thought they were wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHow nice of your neighbor to share her roses. Your flowers are so pretty. I'm so sorry that you had to destroy your lilies. I hope you can grow them again. When I was growing up our elderly neighbor across the street grew morning glories on her front porch. I used to love visiting her and sitting on the porch surrounded by flowers.
ReplyDeletePretty flowers, I started morning glory from seed, they are not starting up the trellis, and the leaves are getting larger, so I hope pretty soon. Everything is popping with the rain, sun, and humidity....me not so much.
