Random Bits

Life in this house is very quiet as we wait for Christmas and family gathering around the table. We celebrate two days of Christmas with the 26th actually more anticipated by some of us. The meal on the 25th will be the turkey/ham with all the sides. The 26th is all appetizers and finger food.  That's the day the Crokinole board will come out as well as all manner of other games. The noise level will be considerable!!

I've been rereading some chapters of Miss Read's Christmas.

Do you keep past issues of favourite magazines?  I love getting them out and looking at the beautiful photos . It doesn't bother me that they're past issues and I'm too frugal to pay what new ones cost.

My supper this evening is one of my favourites. Crepes filled with cottage cheese and covered with lots of blueberry sauce.

I hope you're finding time to relax and enjoy this special time of the year.

Thanks for visiting,

Granny Marigold

  1. I did not know there is a Miss Read Christmas book, which would be ideal to read this season. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  2. Celebrating Christmas over two days is an awesome idea. I had to look up what a crokinole board was as I have never heard of it before - it sounds like loads of fun!
Your crepes look delicious too :)

  3. Lucky you to have a houseful at Christmas and for two whole days! How fun! Your crepes look like the "blintzes" that my MIL used to order from the Village Inn in Omaha years ago. I wonder if they still have them? She loved them and ordered them each time we would go.
I'm really looking forward to the 22 when the days start getting longer. Right now we only have about 6 hours of daylight. It does get a bit depressing and we have lots of people with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), up here in the Northwest because of the short winter days. On the flip-side though, in the summer we have only about 6 hours of darkness and we love that. :-)
    Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  4. Delicious crepes! This year, we are doing things differently- normally, we have ham and all the fixings but we are ordering chinese for CHRISTmas dinner. CHRISTmas Eve will be a sandwich platter and appetizer spread. Gingerbread cookies and carrots for Santa. Easy peasy!

  5. Today I have put up the Christmas tree.I have some few more decorating I will do tomorrow. Our tradition is normally to don't do it before Dec. 23, which is called little Christmas eve in Norway. But I thought it was nice to do it before the house fills up with our three sons coming home for Christmas. Our youngest comes tonight, one on Sunday, and one on Monday! We celebrate on Christmas Eve, 24th. I have not heard about the crokinole game, but we always play some board games when we are together for Christmas. Merry Christmas!

  9. Yum, your crepes look mouth watering! Here's it's a busy time getting ready for the family gathering which will be on Christmas Eve. As I'm now on holidays till after Christmas, much has been left for me to do now. I have never read any of the Miss Read books but am always hoping I will come across them at some of the thrift stores. They look like the ones that need a cozy afghan and a cup of tea to accompany them! Wishing you a great time with your family! Christmas blessings to all!

  10. I've never heard of a crokinole board either and also looked it up!
No, I don't save old magazines. I haven't had a magazine delivered to the house in years. I read the ones from the library. : )
A very Merry Christmas to you and all your family.

  12. I love the Miss Read books and haven't enjoyed one of them in a long time. What a good idea! I also keep old magazine issues. I have some random Victorias from the 1990's. I love looking at what the "romantic fashions" were back then!
