Roses and some sad news

The Bonica roses along the driveway are full of flowers. They're such faithful bloomers and require so little care.

This little rose bush was supposed to be the same colour as the others but obviously isn't.  I don't think I would have chosen it if I'd known how pale it is but now I rather like it.  I doesn't grow as tall as the others either.  That's Feverfew growing under it.  Many years ago I flew to visit my parents in Manitoba and brought back a couple of small plants from my Mom's garden. From those few have grown so many all over my yard.  They certainly are prolific spreaders ( but easy to pull out).

On the weekend we received the sad news that one of my DH's brothers had died in his sleep.  It was quite a shock because although  he hadn't been in great health for years there was no indication that he was about to die.
Dh came from a family of 6 boys followed by 2 girls.  The boys were all very close in age and the brother that now passed away was only 15 months older than my DH who is 77.  Due to Covid there will be a small funeral which will be live-streamed ( I think that's the right term).  We're 1500 miles away so travel would have been difficult anyway.

  11. Your roses are so lovely. Your husband's brother's passing may be remembered as the time when the roses came into bloom. They could be a special tribute to this dear departed one. I am sorry for your loss and the pain of it's suddenness.

  14. I am sorry about the loss of your husband's brother. I also wondered if all the other brothers are still living. The pale rose certainly didn't turn out to an ugly duckling among the roses. I love it!

  17. I bought the book because I was curious about roses & garlic since I love them both. I don't take the companion gardening to the extreme, as I have a small space. I planted the lemon balm because it was one of the ingredients to make Queen of Hungary. It's a pretty plant, but not alot of lemon in it for me. Has many healing properties, but I prefer Lemon Verbena for the lemony fragrance. I've never tried to overwinter one. Maybe this year.

  21. I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your brother-in-law. It's such a sad time right now. My siblings and niece and nephew are having a small get together today in honor of my brother who passed Sunday from Covid. It has to be less than 10 people and I'm so sad not to be there with them all since I'm so far away, but it does leave a space for someone else.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  22. I like what Dori wrote, each rose a prayer. Sad news for your family, I consider the age of your brother in law to not be very old, being 75 myself.

  23. The roses are simply beautiful. You have such a green thumb, and you are also a great cook. Your baked goods always look picture perfect, like your flowers. How sad about your hustand's brother. I'm so sorry. Six boys, close in age. Bet they were all good boys too.

  27. I'm so sorry for this unexpected loss for you and your family, GM. It's very hard during this time, and with family far away. I'm sure your husband will have many pensive moments, remembering his brother. God bless you both.
