This and That

Mothers Day dawned bright and sunny. All 5 of my grown children plus my oldest granddaughter and oldest grandson all came out. We sat in the shade ( it was 30C (86F))  making efforts that were at times rather feeble to maintain any distance between us.  The last time we were all together was Boxing Day so it was really lovely to be together.

I wonder if anyone noticed that in my last post  I called this topiary Rosemary when it's obviously Spanish Lavender.   I did go back and change that.

I received this beautiful card made by my oldest daughter.  My photo doesn't capture the details but the little bird cage  hangs from a copper wire and the backing has been cut away so you see into the card.  The door and the pot of flowers are all separate pieces.

This pretyt jug was another of my gifts. I'm sure I'll find just the right spot for it.

DH has been busy fixing up the landing and stairs that go down from the laundry room into the garage. He was able to use a stack of free laminate boards and even had enough  to cover the side of the landing ( you can just see  part of it on the lower left corner).  Today he painted the walls in the laundry room so tomorrow we can put the room back to rights again.

So we keep busy as the days go by.  Our hot and sunny weather has changed to warm and showery.
Everything is growing especially the weeds and enthusiastic self-sowing volunteers such as Forget-me-nots. Each day I pull a few more and hopefully I've pulled them before too many shed seeds.

Thanks for stopping by today,  G.M.

  1. How wonderful that all of your children, and a couple of grands, were there for Mother's Day. All three of our children were here, but not at the same time. I would have gladly hugged my daughter, but she is still in the social distancing mode. You must be excited about the new laundry room.

  2. I would have never known if you called it by the wrong name because I know next to nothing about plants. Your daughter's card is beautiful. She obviously put a LOT of work and love into it.
    Blessings,

  3. I pulled a few forget me nots yesterday. They are getting close to being done, but I love them while they are looking good. I have a few white ones also, and even saw a few pink flowers.

  4. I like lavender and I have it in the garden. Your pitcher is beautiful.
Beth Brown-Reinsel's book has been translated into German.
The original is English with the title: knitting ganseys. Techniques and
Patterns for Traditional Sweaters... from 2019.
The author writes in the book: "Let us knit a large piece of peace together, each loving stitch full of friendliness and respect for the many colors and shapes of all living things." (I don't know from the translation if the original is maybe a little different).

  6. We call that French lavender!
I try to leave some of the forget me nots in as I love to see them in the Spring....but not too many! They can take over.

  11. Can't imagine it being that hot already. Rarely gets that hot here even in summer!
Sounds like a great Mother's Day with all your kids around you.
Your husband did a great job on the stairs!!

  12. LOL yes, I did notice the 'rosemary' but didn't like to say anything. That jug is a little treasure and I am sure you will soon find a place for it.
Isn't it great to have Helpful Hubbies who can do work around the home? Enjoy your day :)

  13. It sounds like you have a great Mother's Day. It is cold and rainy here, but will be in the 80's tomorrow. Strange times. Many people have lost garden plants to this recent weather, even with covering them.

  15. Everything in this post is beautiful. I love the Spanish Lavender, and the beautiful card your daughter made, and the pitcher. You had a crowd for Mother's Day. It must have been a wonderful day. I had a hard time keeping my distance from my daughter and son-in-law too. I missed the hugs we usually share.

  16. Yes, I have forget me nots everywhere too. They are easy to pull when you want them to go away.

  18. I hope everyone's safe and staying safe. I just read that the virus is mutating and getting much more dangerous. I don't want to alarm anyone but it's time to get right with God, cause this is getting downright scary! Stay home and stay safe, guys!

  19. I haven't found a place where forget-me-nots want to grown, in my new garden. I think it must not be moist enough anywhere...

Your Mother's Day looks sweet! That card with the attached bird cage is wonderful!

A little late to comment but regarding the Mother’s Day card I made, I’d like to say that Mom is the biggest fan of all my creative endeavors and it’s akways a pleasure to think of new and pretty things I can make for her.
