Yesterday was a very productive day around here. In the cool of the morning DH hekped me by digging up some of my Iris clumps that were too large and also had all kinds of other perennials growing among them. I looked it up and middle of August is a good time to lift and divide them so that's what we did.
When we were done we went to buy peaches and were fortunate to get boxes of 20 lbs for $20 each. Two boxes for our DIL and one for us. They still need a few days to ripen.
In the afternoon I baked raisin scones and while the oven was on I quickly mixed up an apple pancake for supper.
The forecast is for a very hot weekend so I'm going to bake a bit more later today. Probably lemon Biscotti IF I can find my grated lemon rind which I know is somewhere in the freezer but so far haven't found. Until I begin the cookies I plan on sitting on the porch ( before it gets too hot out there) and reading.
Thanks for visiting,
GRANNY MARIGOLD
Peaches are so good, I love them. Peach cobbler, peach ice cream, peach preserves, peach flavored ice tea, oh my, now I want peaches!
ReplyDeleteCan you send to me one of the fine cakes by virtual flying?
ReplyDeleteI think and mean to see your hand is perfect again!
Greetings and blessings to you from Dori from the Bavarian Forest!
mmmm I sure do like peaches and those scones look delicious and supper too.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, your scones and apple pancake look delish! I can smell the good smells from here! Hope people appreciate all your baking skills!
ReplyDeleteLots of good things come out of your kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThose peaches look delicious, as does your baked goods.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a yunny post! LOL! The peaches our stores have right now just aren't very flavorful for some reason. I only buy 1 or 2 to test them before buying more, but so far, bleah. Oh well, peaches aren't really my thing, I just try to find them for Jerry sometimes. I made an apple pancake many years ago... I didn't like it but Jerry sure did lol. (Of course, he will try anything I make anyway lol.) B;essings to you, GM!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm definitely hungry and it's too late to cook anything. :-) I usually get apples and peaches in the fall from the orchards here but this year I really don't have anyplace to keep anything I can or freeze so I'll be skipping it. Your peaches sure look good.
ReplyDeleteWe're supposed to have over 100F for the next 4 days and in the 90's all next week. Right when we're moving the trailer which is a BIG job since it's set up permanently on our spot. I hope you stay cool and find indoor pursuits while it's so hot.
Blessings,
Betsy
Your scones look amazing i cant remember last time I had some . I will be making a trip to the shops to make some x
ReplyDeleteWhat a great price for your peaches! Peach pie is my definite all-time favorite (but without cinnamon added!). Your apple pancake looks superb! Do you eat it with ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream? I would be interested in knowing how you freeze your lemon rind?

All your baked goods look so yummy! I probably need to divide my irises too, thanks for sharing that it is a good time in August to do that. I hope you have a lovely weekend, it certainly is a hot one!
ReplyDeleteIf only I could bake like you! Your baked goods always look simply delicious! That is such a good price for peaches.
ReplyDeleteThis was a delicious post! The peaches look so fresh and good. We never get such amounts of peaches! The peaches we get are all imported. And your baking look so yummy! I have never tried apple pancake, it looks good so I think I will try to make it one day.
ReplyDeleteYour apple pancake looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteThe peaches are an abundance of YUM! Maybe you have already started in on using them.
ReplyDeleteIt's humid and hot here, too! Very unusual. Last night I couldn't bear to cook until the sun went down, so I had a smoothie for dinner and cooked steak at 8:00 to eat cold today. We had an exciting thunderstorm last night which is unusual - today is muggier than yesterday... but this odd weather probably won't last. I prefer it to always being cold in the evenings, though!
I love peaches! Your raisin scones look very tasty.
ReplyDeleteAhhhh... raisin scones and appel pancake :-))))
ReplyDeletemy mouth is watering - I think I'll bake right away ...
We don't bake scones here, but I look for the recipe on the internet.
Thanks for the tip and the photos and a warm greeting to you.
Viola :-))) I'm glad, thank you!

I so want a slice of your apple pancake! And, those raisin scones! Wow! Those big ole clumps can get mighty hard to get out of the ground...so glad you had some help!
ReplyDeleteThose scones look delish! GM - if you can, would you mind sharing what exactly an apple pancake is, cooked in the oven? I cook my pancakes in a skillet, and would be interested to know what an oven one would be like. Thanks.
