A New Year

We spent a quiet evening at home just like most other New Years Eves have been spent in the past. We're really not people who go out and about especially this past year.

In other years I've kept all the Christmas decorations up well into January but somehow this year I felt that I wanted to put it all away and put the house in order.  That's what we did yesterday, taking down the trees and deciding what to store for next year and what to get rid of.  I have 2 very big boxes to take to the thrift store once they re-open.

I wish everyone a peaceful, healthy and happy New Year.

  1. Happy New Year! I took down my tree the day after Christmas, and have most stuff put away, except I leave the nativity set up a while. I also leave up a Christmas stocking a friend made me, but did put it up day before yesterday.

  2. Happy New Year! We never do anything on New Years Eve either. Our church has always had a party where people bring snacks and play board games and the have a prayer circle at midnight but obviously that didn't happen this year. Dennis was in bed by 9:00 but then he was at work at 5:30 am so he was exhausted. I made it to 11:00. We woke up when fireworks went off at midnight and fell right back to sleep. We're such partiers. :-)
Many Blessings on your new year my friend.

  3. Happy New Year, Granny Marigold! So sorry for missing you posts lately. Don't know why I can't keep up. I just read back to Dec. 12th. I loved seeing your handsome sons. That's a good picture of them with your husband. All of your pictures are beautiful, those taken from your walks and I love that huge beautiful Christmas tree all decorated. Poppy and I are not partiers either. We were both sleepy and in bed before 9:30. Of course, I woke up at 11:30 and looked at the clock every hour until 5:30 when I got up. Hope this new year is much better than the last one.

  5. We've always stayed home, also... we went to bed at 8:00 p.m. None of the kids/grandkids went anywhere this year, of course. No one in the area did any fireworks that we could hear, which surprised us. But then it was only 18 degrees (feels like was less than zero!) out there at midnight lol. It was supposed to snow several inches overnight last night, but that never materialized, it all stayed east of us, closest it came was within 20 miles so we dodged the ice and heavy snow. Happy first day of 2021 to you guys! Blessings and prayers!

  7. Happy New Year. I took all the Christmas decorations and tree down today. I like to put everything away as soon as the holiday is over but make myself wait until the Jan 1. I usually don't make it!!

  8. Funny, I wanted to start early this year in terms of holidays, and then suddenly wanted to "end" early, too, and get things put away nice and tidy. How nice to bring unwanted items to the thrift store. I love going "hunting" for little treasures in thrift stores! By the way I love those Johnny Jump Ups in your header! Such a sprightly little flower!

  9. Dear Granny Marigold, I wish you a happy, healthy and blessed new year, and a lot of blessings for your family! The new time is running fast - I feel the same. But my Christmas-tree still is standing. In Germany most peolpe remove it after 6th January. Some wait until 2nd February, a special day called "Lichtmess" . On "Lichtmess" the day is one hour longer.

Many greetings from Dori from the Bavarian Forest

  10. We didn't go out for New Year's either, we enjoyed an almost quiet evening. People setting off fireworks had my little dogbabies so upset, it was 2am before they calmed down and went to bed. That's illegal in our city limits, but people do it anyway.

  12. Happy New Year To You Granny! I love the pics of the flowers in your header! Makes me think of Spring! Well...we will keep our Christmas decor up all thru January, since family can't come to celebrate Christmas until almost the end of January, due to Covid in December at our daughter's house. I'm sure by the time I get to the end of Jan. I'll be ready to take it all down. I also have my six month CT Scan and XRay to see if my cancer has returned, at the very end of January. Wish me luck!

    1. Diane, I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year. Also a good result on your CT scan at the end of the month.
Better even than wishing you luck I'll say a prayer for you.

  13. I usually leave my trees up for at least a couple of days after Christmas, but, for some reason, this year I could hardly wait to get the decorations down and put away. I think this will be my last year to put up a large tree - maybe just a small Charlie Brown tree would be the thing. I love your new header pictures. I am not allowing myself to think about spring and digging in the dirt.... well, not much, anyway! I hope you have a wonderful New Year!

with lots of little positive moments.
We had a quiet New Year for two, but at Christmas the family was together, the children and grandchildren, it was wonderful.
The new year should be better than the old one. We will give our best.

  16. Happy New Year! We took down our Christmas decor before New Year's - I just wanted to clear out and clean up. We always stay home, too, and made it to midnight, when we heard a few fireworks go off. All the best for 2021!

  17. Happy New Year! Quiet evening heard as usual, except for fireworks going off like crazy all evening. We watched a nice movie on Netflix called Fisherman's Friends, and some how managed to stay up until midnight.
