Houses

The rain storm we had last week must have been too much for this neighbour's eaves troughs. The fascia board and all came down.

On my walk I took some pictures of the houses that I pass on my way to the park. This is the latest one to be built.  The style is so boxy and not to my liking at all.  Look at all the reinforcement in the driveway. That's surely not going to crack no matter what gets parked on it.

The house above is across the street but one and the one below is right beside us.  To the left you can just see a corner of our house.

Enough about houses.  DH comes home later today and that will be great. I managed to get all the things done that I wanted to while he was gone. Now to keep things that way!

Here's another teacup. I believe it is # 7.

Thanks for coming by,  GM

  1. The houses that are so boxy would not be my choice for outside appearances, but I would love to see the inside. To me, they make me feel like they are for businesses. That is a beautiful teacup.

  2. You have a lot of very modern homes on your walk. They are not my style either but they are very interesting. Teacup #7 is very delicate...

  3. I just love it when the teacups have those silver or gold handles and feet. It's so elegant and lush! Love the teacup #7. Those houses are very fine looking, but I agree, so modern and boxy. I think that is the latest style, as I saw one here standing out like a sore thumb. It was just built. Your area is beautiful!

    1. There are far more of the modest sort of homes in our neighbourhood and those huge new ones have made our taxes shoot way up. Of course it has caused our house and large old lot to be worth more than before but since we have no intention of selling ....

  6. The beautiful creamy looking tea cup..
Love this showcasing. (I am repeating myself I know).

The homes are pretty...the worst style for me is the "cracker box" ranch.

  7. I've not traveled around very much, but I've never seen the style of architecture of a couple of those houses. Your neighborhood has a lot more variety than mine, and the houses are newer.

Our subdivision was built in the early 1950's.There are three main house styles. One story homes that look like a box with windows (our house), two story homes either with matching regular dormers on either side, and two story houses where one dormer is triangle shaped and the second one is box shaped, with pointed roof (a little bit cottage looking). I found out some of the histories of the houses and most of the houses on our street were first owned by military who worked at a military facility that is near our home. The two story houses were owned by officers, and many of the smaller homes were owned by enlisted personnel. There is only one house on our street that still has the original owner. She is in her 90's.

    1. Hi Susie, Nice to have you drop by. I noticed that you have been on a blog break. Hope you come back soon.

  8. Those new houses certainly look great, but to me they seem to lack 'homeliness' - perhaps they will become more friendly-looking when they have been lived in for a while. Or maybe I am just too old-fashioned in what I like :))

  9. I am not a fan of the modern boxy style of houses. I like old fashioned things and buildings!

  10. I'm with you, those houses are much more boxy than I like. My favorite house style is farmhouse or cottage. I don't like split level homes, (where you come in the front door and immediately go up 7 or so stairs or down the same). I know they're called different things. We've owned and lived in three of them now and our current home is a split level. I prefer no stairs inside the door so you have a place to stand and say hello and goodbye to people and to visit without standing on stairs.
I'm glad you got everything done that you wanted to while Hubby was gone. I seem to get nothing done recently except watch over a puppy. Today we have both Lizzie and Zoey because Mandy took the day off work to help at school for track and field day. The girls love to play together so it's not a burden at all.
Love the sweet teacup and pretty. doily. Did you make it?
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. I wish I could say that I made it but it wouldn't be true. I think that's one my Mom made or else that I got at the thrift store.

  11. I do get more done when the hubby is gone. He has been helping our son all week, so I am getting lots of things caught up. You live in a nice neighborhood even though the houses are a more modern style. I like #7 a lot!

  12. Those houses appear to be very expensive construction with things going this way and that and very complex roof lines.

  13. This style we also have in the Bavarian Forest. But some new houses try to fit better into the regoion, thanks goodness!!!

If in a house live nice peole, the house gets beautiful in time -

  14. I agree with you that those boxy houses don't look very good. They are not friendly and welcoming in the least.
How good to get things done while your hubby was away! Enjoy the weekend.

  15. It's like they built the cheapest box of a house they could, and tried to disguise the starkness of it with extra boxy ornaments. It comes out looking cluttered and boring at the same time, worse than my house which is also basically a big box, but with more traditional roof and windows, and simple trim. I'm always fascinated by architecture; it's amazing how often new buildings are ugly.

  16. Wow - those houses all have the same "look"!! I wonder if it's the same contractor, or perhaps they are kit houses, all made by the same company? I agree with you -- not to my taste. Glad your hubby is coming home :)
