The Back Garden

We had a much-needed rain yesterday. Today we're back to mostly sunny with a few clouds. It's so pleasant when the temperature stays below 23 or 24C ( mid 70's F).

A lot of my perennials are getting overly large and the path isn't usable because of overhanging plants. I started clearing some out but soon realized I'd never be able to do it. One call to youngest son and he came over and in no time at all he had reduced the size of many of my oldest Daylilies.  There's more to be done but for now it looks a lot tidier.

This Clematis has grown both up and also down winding itself through the Daisies. I'll wait with cutting it back until it has done blooming.

These strange little tomatoes will be red when they ripen ( or so the tag says).

I know I post about these Rattlesnake pole beans every year but some of you might not have read how the single bean plant that M sowed in either kindergarten or grade one, I forget which it was, but it  grew and we eventually put it in with our regular beans. It did so well that we saved the seeds at the end of the season and by now it has become one of our favourite varieties.

I realized that I had not answered a question that came up after I posted about freezing cherries.  Some wanted to know if we froze them without pitting them. We do because we find that when we make jam the pits float to the top and can easily be scooped off. However, we are aware that we miss some and are careful when we eat the jam not to chip a tooth!

I have a SIL that pits her frozen cherries when they're half  thawed. She says it doesn't take her long to pit as many as she needs.

Thanks for coming by today,  GM

  9. What a beautiful riot of summer flowers in your garden. The lilies are magnificent.
Those black tomatoes are strange, it will be interesting to see how red they become.
Your beans sound like they are well on the way to becoming treasured family heirlooms, how awesome :)

  11. Oh, GM, I love it when you show us your flowers. Just love them. The green beans sounds interesting.

As to Lotus blooms on my blog, for a long time I thought Lotus and Water Lilies were the same thing. I forget what made me google it and found out the difference.

  15. My, what a gorgeous yard with all those flowers in bloom! What, may I ask, did you do with the pieces of daylilies that your youngest culled from your garden beds? Wish you could have thrown them my way, lol. About the black tomato...is it an heirloom variety or is it a hybrid? Do you remember its name? I would love to plant some! Hope your hand is on the mend.

  17. The beans look great and the black tomatoes are exciting ... have fun harvesting. You have wonderful flowers in your garden, wonderful colors. Thanks for the beautiful pictures. We currently have 37 degrees Celsius in the shade, it is usually not that warm here ... the plants suffer from the heat ... it has to rain !!! Tomorrow it should be cooler. Thank you! A warm greeting to you. Viola
(...In July I had a trip to Italy ... with face masks in all shops and exhibitions ... and few people in the cities. It was a pleasure. However, Corona is not over yet ...)

  22. GM, I just say again ... your gardens are AMAZING. Just stunning. It is just too hard here to garden in the summer. Our temps are regularly above 95, sometimes day after day. Above 90 for weeks on end (as a high). I just can't do it. When you said that your temps are staying below the mid 70s -- I just long for that! I would garden every day in those temps :) Thanks for sharing all that beauty!
