Good-Bye November

I've changed the calendar page and I'm looking forward to these next days. I took out my Christmas plates; this one is new to me this year. I only have a few but I like to use them as often as I can.

I made the fruit cake and cut it into pieces which I've frozen. I know people let them "mature" but I prefer to keep mine in the freezer until I need them.

We had a quiet weekend. Today (Monday) is our anniversary and we'll celebrate it quietly.

Have you started playing Christmas music yet?  I bought some Christmas CD's at the thrift store. Some are nice,  the ones I don't care for I've been bringing to the little free library. Obviously someone is taking them home because when I go back to bring more the others are gone.

I hope you're all well.  Thanks for stopping by.

  1. Oh.....great job on that beautiful Christmas cake! I'd like a slice right now! :) I love your Christmas plate too.....so pretty. Yes we have listened to some Christmas music on the radio so far....oh, and a CD of Christmas music which hubby puts on when we sit down to dinner. I've still got some things to get accomplished before this month goes zooming by....like my tree to decorate...I'm too short to reach the top part and hubby is suffering from a sore back right now, so he's not much help with that. I also have a ton of presents to wrap, just need to get myself going on it! Especially the ones that will have to be shipped out of town. Thanks for a great blog Granny!

  2. Happy anniversary! We always celebrate quietly too. WE haven't started Christmas music at home but we have been listening to it in the van as we run our errands. Love your new Christmas plate and your cake looks delicious! Stay safe and well...

  3. I have Christmas music tuned into both the car and Dennis's truck, (he likes it too). At home we have Pandora that plays through my phone and a portable speaker that Alex gave us. I've been listening to it for over a week now. I love Christmas music and can't get enough of it.
I have all our Christmas gifts done except the socks I'm knitting now and a sweater. I hope to mail out everything but the sweater this week so they all have it in time for Christmas since Alex & Tara's has to get to London.
    Take care,
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  4. Hi G.M. - It is the first day of Summer here- very hot at 100 Deg F...cooling down at night thankfully. I guess you'll soon be getting Snow there. Your Fruit Cake takes me back to when Mum was baking in our little Kitchen- I can see Mum with Mixing Bowl and Wooden Spoon in her favorite Apron. Happy Anniversary too. Hope you have a splendid Christmas. Best Wishes. KEV. (Sydney-Australia).

  5. Happy Anniversary and I hope you have many more of them.
My Christmas cake recipe makes a big cake so we always used to freeze it in portions. It was seldom iced as we preferred just to have the cake! :)

  6. I want to congratulate you on your 57th ... the cake is definitely delicious, I would love to try it :-))
Nice picture that you show ... to dream ... and imagine, we have the first snow today ... everything knows, it looks wonderful. I live in Germany - 270 meters above sea level ... and it's nice to have some snow now.
You can see the traditional Christmas cake - Christstollen - from my region on my blog :-)) I don't bake the Christstollen myself - actually all people buy the Christstollen from their favorite baker in Dresden / Germany ... there are an incredible number of bakers in Dresden ... many many! The Christmas stollen is cut on the 1st of Advent and everyone in our area is looking forward to it ... I bought two Christmas stollen - raisins and almonds, each weighing 2000 grams.
In December I bake Christmas cookies and once a year an Advent cake and New Year's Eve traditionally a nut cake ... (I write in Norwegian on my blog because I travel there a lot and learn Norwegian.)
    Have a wonderful Advent. Viola

  11. I like playing a quiet "album" called Winterlude, which is all instrumental and has "Pat A Pan" as one of the selections. It sounds Medieval almost. For livelier songs, I like the old Bing Crosby stuff, the WWII renditions of songs, and the like. Someone is enjoying your CDs, that's nice of you to share them in the little free library.

  12. Best wishes for your aniversary! Stay happy and healthy and have a wonderful time with all your dears in your fine house and garden!

My mother came from Dresden, and she made every year Dredsner Christstollen. We were not allowed to taste it before Christmas. My elder sister now cares for this nice tradition. My mother was born in 1920 and went to the Bavarian Forest because of the second world war.

This is a very nice December-plate!

I love Chrismas-songs and classic music and folk musik.

Today we hat a little bit snow.

I love December and waiting for the holy child.

  13. Happy Anniversary a day late.
A while back I uploaded many of our Christmas cds to the computer and made play lists for my ipod. One of the playlists is just instrumental Christmas music and we love it. we started playing it before Thanksgiving.

  15. The Christmas plate is so pretty. I've never had a set of Christmas dishes. It would be fun to collect different ones from thrift and antique stores. Hope I have better luck than I've had finding teacups and saucers. :) You did good with the selfies (last post) and you look pretty in the mask. Oh, your fruit cake looks wonderful.
