Amaryllis, Hellebores and Valentines Decoration

My Amaryllis "Nymph" is blooming!! The blooms are so different from the others that I have ( to the left on the windowsill).  Apparently Nymph is the only double Amaryllis that is guaranteed to produce 4 blooms on each stalk. There are 2 more buds that you can't see here.

The Hellebores seem to be slow this year and with this cold spell I doubt they'll do much until the temperatures get above 0.

I hung a heart on the front door. I'm surprised the blustery wind hasn't blown it away. In case you're wondering, that black thing in the middle is a door knocker ( we don't have a doorbell).

We're still in a deep freeze here and I haven't been walking. I hope to get back on track next week.     We'll celebrate middle son's birthday this weekend. He was a Valentine's Day baby. I hope you have a little celebration no matter how small to mark the day.  Post pictures even if it's just of a heart-shaped cookie you had.

Thanks for coming by,  GM

  1. Nice Valentine Wreath. We don't have a door bell or a knocker.

  2. I fear my walking streak may be broken by the wretched weather that's on the way. Looking at your pictures, one could almost be fooled into thinking that spring has already arrived. But, no matter, spring or winter, your green thumb is always at work. Your amaryllis is beautiful!

  4. I love that spade door knocker! Unique and environmentally friendly, no electricity needed! The double amaryllis is just beautiful. What kind of grass do you have up north? It is still green!

  6. I can hardly believe that you have green grass on your yard even with your deep freeze! We are in the midst of a deep freeze as well with schools closed to students today due to the -45C windchills and-35C temps in the morning. Your Nymph amaryllis is so lovely. Mine unfortunately came up without any buds this time around. Happy Valentine's Day to you and enjoy your birthday celebrations with J.

  7. I like your decorations for Valentine's Day. We have a few all over the house. I like things that sparkle so we have sparkling hearts on vines in various spots. Also a sweet girl that we met at church a few years ago, brought over a basket filled to the brim with goodies. We hung a couple of those things up on the walls. She even painted a heart with I Love You on it...that has a special place on our wall. We have a heart wreath, kind of like yours, on our front door tool. Was hoping to order take out from a favorite restaurant in town that makes great Prime Rib, but it looks like they wont' be open on V. Day. Shucks. Hope you have a great Valentine's Day.

  9. I love your beautiful amaryllis and have never seen one like that before. We had strong winds from the north today. The winds and temperatures have combined to freeze our RV water source so we have no running water. That was with heat tape on the faucet and a heated hose! This hasn't happened before but it's a new adventure. The maintenance guy is on vacation in Mexico until Tuesday so it's up to us! We hauled 15 gallons of water in tonight so we can have showers tomorrow and then Dennis will work on trying to thaw it. I hope! It's amazing how many times I turned the faucet on today absent mindedly expecting water to come out. I guess you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Ha!
Stay warm and enjoy your beautiful Valentine decorations my friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  13. I've put my amarylis in the ground each year, after the initial bulb blooms inside. We are warm enough for them in the ground? I don't know much about them. Hellebores are a favorite, and finally last year I bought a plant and put some in the ground, and I'm hoping they spread and become dominant in that bed. I love them so much! They are so old fashioned.
