A beautiful sunny morning with temperatures just above freezing. Lots of people in the park.
There's an Eagle nest in the tree to the right of the path. I'll see if I can get it bigger...
If you look closely you can just see the Eagles white head sticking over the edge of the nest ( close to the tree trunk.)
It's been a week with even more backyard bird activity than usual. We even had a Varied Thrush visit. Something I've never seen before is a Hummingbird in the birdbath. We had one enjoying a nice long splashy bath one afternoon. Incidentally this picture is off the internet NOT taken by me.
Here's a nice blurry picture that I took. Maybe not about birds but birds were definitely on a neighbour's cat's mind as he sat under the feeder and waited for a chance. The reflection of the sun made for a bad pic but I couldn't resist including this photo.
These pictures did not load in the order I wanted them so you see the lattice fence first although it came last and starts back beside the new garden arbour that DH and youngest son built. The fence does along the right side of the path.Hopefully I can take some better pics when we've had a chance to tidy things up.
Thanks for visiting, G.M.
I see you still have a bit of snow, your arbor and lattice fencing will really be pretty with all your flowers in bloom!
ReplyDeleteWe put the last of our birdseed in the feeders today. We will have to get more in the next couple of days as the feeders will be empty again soon! How cool that you have an eagle to watch! Your arbor looks nice.
ReplyDeleteHow fun that you can watch the eagle. I wonder what it thinks of all the activity on the path below. I do miss seeing all of the eagles at the lake. We used to watch them every year with their babies. I have never seen a hummingbird in a birdbath before. The flit away so quickly that I count myself lucky to see them at all.
ReplyDeleteThe fence is going to look so pretty this spring with the blossoms all around it. I think lots of us are eagerly anticipating spring this year.
Blessings,
Betsy
It was amazing to see the eagles nest, how great to be able to watch an eagle.
ReplyDeleteEagles and hummingbirds, how wonderful. We just have the day to day birds, sparrows, great tits , blackbirds etc.
ReplyDeleteI can see the eagle's head! I hope she doesn't get it in her mind to go dive-bomb the walkers when the eggs hatch! The kitty looks like a Birman I found who had been hit by a car. I rushed him to my vet, who had to remove a back leg. The owners didn't want him back when I finally found them! They wanted a designer kitty, not a tripod. So he lived with us the rest of his life, and we called him Coco-Puff. He had no idea he had only 3 legs and would climb a tree in our yard just like the rest of them!
ReplyDeleteOh a hummingbird! And to think we can expect ours back in only a month. I like your blurry picture - really gives a feel for the day. You are getting a great jump on spring with all your garden work and plans.
ReplyDeleteI think that is unusual to see a hummingbird in the bird bath - what a great capture!
ReplyDeleteDid see the nest.
I always upload one picture at a time when I posting. Then I know exactly where it will be.
Birds and walks and garden projects are happening here too. We push for spring, knowing at any given time that winter can come roaring back.
ReplyDeleteIt does look like a lovely day to be outside. Your neighbor's cat has such pretty coloring.
ReplyDeleteI find cats so funny in how naughty they are! :) I love your home and yard and all you do with it!
ReplyDeleteThere is such an interesting bird life where you live! I am sure your garden will be beautiful when spring and summer will fill it with flowers and colors.
ReplyDeleteHow neat to have an eagle nesting close to your walking path! Do all of your pots in your back yard have perennials in them or do you replant them every spring? And do you keep the old potting soil or replace it with new? I tend to forget to water pots so I have had to cut back how many I plant as I can get quite carried away in the spring but then the enthusiasm fizzles out by the end of July. Obviously don't have your dedication to gardening!

I'd say about 2/3 of my pots have perennials in them. I always vow I'll buy less annuals then I get carried away and come home with too many. But how to choose just a few? There are so many to tempt me. As to the soil...it depends how full of roots it is. I'll either dump the whole thing or mix in a lot of compost into the pot before planting in it.
DeleteOne of my cats would be a real hunter, the other one is too, but not as intent. I like the white lattice...and love that you can be that close to an eagle nest.
ReplyDeleteSpring is coming to your land! It really does look lovely; when the sun comes out it's so energizing.
ReplyDeleteGood hunter, Granny Marigold! The birds are special, you must find them and have a camera and good eyes!!
ReplyDeleteThe fence looks fresh and friendly. The cat is beautiful.
I can see the eagles head. I have never seen humminbirds
ReplyDeleteI can see the eagle head and I would love to have hummingbirds here! They look nice.
ReplyDeleteIt really is too bad that the neighbour's cat is allowed to roam free like that. Domestic and feral cats take a terrible toll on songbirds.
