If you visit Far Side of Fifty at her blog you'll know that she's been Spring cleaning her kitchen. She mentioned that she has 17 drawers and I was so amazed. Today she posted pics of her kitchen and inspired me to go count how many drawers I have. I was surprised to find I have 16 !!
You've had lots of glimpses of my kitchen in past posts but I thought I'd show you around a little better. If this doesn't interest you at all please feel free to ignore this post.
First of all please ignore any clutter because I didn't take the time to tidy up.
These 6 drawers are to the left of the sink. The top two contain cutlery. The bottom left one has tea towels and dishcloths in one and the other 3 have canned and boxed foods.
This is to the right of the sink. We used to have a dishwasher ( actually we had 3 and the second 2 never cleaned dishes well so we removed it and DH built this cupboard which is supposed to be able to be pulled out but it's full of dishes and is so heavy I can't manage to budge it.) The bin on the right can be pulled out and holds 3 bags of flour. To the right of that one is another that holds 3 bags of sugar.
The door to the left has pull out shelves that I keep baking pans and pie plates etc. on. Above it is my apron drawer. The door on the right has my cookie sheets and cooling racks and the drawer above it has pot holders and such. The lazy Susan occupies the corner.
Beside the fridge is my pantry. That's about it. I hope I haven't bored you. If you care to show pics of your kitchen I'd love to see how you organize that most important room in the house!

Lovely cabinets! I have only 3 drawers in my small kitchen, so I'm rather limited :) Thanks for the tour.

ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful kitchen with marvellous wooden details. I only can see very fine clean housework. In such a kitchen cakes and everything must be successful. Big compliment!
ReplyDeleteI have six drawers, two of them very tiny, and a really small, poorly designed kitchen. I have some free-standing prim pantries that I use, out in the "den" area that is just part of the kitchen. The whole set-up is inconvenient! I enjoyed looking at yours! Much nicer kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI love all of your drawers and cabinets. I have 2 drawers, and 4 cabinets in the base unit and above the counter and stove I have 2 longer cabinets where I can reach things, and 4 cabinets that most of the shelves are too high for me to reach. I have a very small kitchen in a small house, but I've lived here over 40 years with my husband, and we likeit fine.
ReplyDeleteI keep slowly shrinking so the top shelves are only accessible if I stand on my tip toes. Soon I'll need a little bench.

DeleteDrawers are so useful, I think, and easier to access than cabinets. Your wooden cabinets look to be in great shape. I always like taking a look at how other people organize their kitchens. Spring cleaning mine is on the to-do list around here.

ReplyDeletepretty kitchen. I wouldn't show mine...nothing to see there, all original from 1955 it is dire need of a facelift. Made me count my cubpboards though I have 12, they are very deep cupboards, which are find when you a young woman, now...I only keep in there what I absolutely will use and it's all in the front.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed looking at your kitchen! I wish I had some more and bigger drawers. I have 6, but they are small. There was a photo from my kitchen on my blog in 2009. The text in that post is not right, plans were changed and our son didn't have the house. It is still me and my husband that live here :)

When we moved to Colorado my new kitchen was twice the size of my New York kitchen but even so I filled all the drawers and cabinets right away. There never seems to be enough storage. The one good thing is that it prevents me from buying any more dishes or pots and pans.
ReplyDeleteI am loving seeing all the drawers and sparkling clean kitchens. I am now truly inspired to get to the bottom of all of mine. I need your Lazy Susan in my cabinet corner. Who knows what might be lurking there!
ReplyDeleteI have more cupboards than drawers, but I do have a big, walk in pantry. We had the builder use all of the space under the stairway for a pantry.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing your kitchen and your beautiful drawers. I would love to have more drawers than cabinets but I have no idea how many of anything will be in our new (older), house. I have 4 drawers in the kitchen here in the RV, but they're small.

Yes, funny ... I checked: 8 drawers are in my kitchen, the others are almost all roll cabinets and today it snowed here ... so I will postpone the spring cleaning, although I already cleaned once in February - Spring cleaning! - because we had incredible spring weather there.

I have more cupboards only 4 drawers, but it is not easy to cook in this kitchen. I had to add an IKEA
ReplyDeleteFurniture with three big drawers an this cupboard is on wheels, so I can put it anywhere in the kitchen and that gives me one more counter to cook.
