Sunshine and Pi Day

We've had some lovely days of sunshine this week which were so appreciated.  There were children playing in the park ( which surprised me because restrictions are still on). I'm glad they were out enjoying the weather.

Here at home there was work to be done and youngest son came to help sanding the cedar fence and then giving it a new coat of stain/varnish.

When he was done the fence he gave the glider swing the same treatment ( while DH 'supervised'.)

My garden shed chair got a nice bright coat of paint.  The inside walls, which you can just see in the background, are much the same colour.

Last but not least I baked 2 cherry pies for Pi day . I know it's tomorrow but I was not about to make pie on a Sunday. As it was I had trouble with the crust. I tried making it with butter instead of the Tenderflake lard I've used in the past.  It was so hard to roll out and ended up being thicker than I would have liked but I'm sure no one will complain.  DH prefers a streusel topping to a top crust and that's what I made.

So the sun is shining and there's the whole afternoon ahead to sit out on the porch and enjoy the view.

The back flowerbeds are full of crocus (crocuses?).

  2. I am, as always, quite envious of your having a work crew around to do the painting and other tasks. That chair is a lovely color. It will be good to have the fence and swing all ready to withstand next winter's weather.

I should find a slice of pie to eat tomorrow! I know now that I could find one at your house...

  4. So nice of your son to come and help out with jobs to be done. I love the color of your chair. I'm with DH... I prefer streusel topping on pie too, but I have never turned down a piece of pie that had a top crust! I envy you the flowers... we still have a yard covered in snow with more snow on the way!

  9. A lot of work has been done! Here we can’t go out. Too much rain and heavy wind. I like the crocus.

  10. Your crocus patch is lovely. I always think they look so delicate. Love the new paint on the chair and the stain on everything else. Everyone is working so hard to get everything all spiffy for springtime. :-)
I forgot all about pie day. Maybe we'll have to buy a pie tomorrow!
    Blessings,

  13. Looks like springtime at your house! Pie love pie cherry...oh my. I like to have lard in the pantry. I ran out and the brand which I had bought is no longer carried, and they have some hydrogenated brand. The other was just lard. So I am currently without Lard.

  14. I envy you your work crew and the spring flowers in your garden! Your pie looks delectable! I guess I was a week early in celebrating "pi" day as I made one large and 6 individual sized cherry pies last weekend, one for each of the grands who eat pie....also cherry! I've never tried using anything else for the crust than Tenderflake (my MIL used to use rendered chicken fat - that was a sure fire way of saving calories by not having dessert!).

  16. Your DH looks quite content with his supervisory job. My hubby is good at that too when the sons are here. I have been out this morning pruning and weeding, but haven't sat on the porch yet. I love this time of year.

  21. Spring is the time to get this kind of work done. How lovely to have your son come by and help. The garden shed chair is such a pretty colour. I had a pie crust in the freezer, so making a pie on Sunday was little trouble. Your cherry pies look delicious!
