Welcome October

September left us on a day of rain. We're hoping now that the earth is saturated we can enjoy many days of sunshine before Winter sets in.  It's often hard to notice the difference between the rains of Autumn and the rains of Winter.  Some years we get snow but not until much later. Meanwhile the flowers still bloom even if they look bedraggled. The Dahlias I bought last week look fine because we've kept them under cover. Here's one of my favourite ones.  I have it on the porch.

My freezer seemed empty of sweets so I baked chocolate cupcakes and lemon scones. It's always nice to have something on hand to have with a cup of coffee or tea especially if one of the children or grands comes by.
Do you have plans for October?

Thanks for visiting today.

  6. We had rain yesterday and last night too. It is so needed. The A/C is still running full blast which is not normal for October. I remember some years we would go right from summer into winter. That's too bad because fall is one of the prettiest seasons here.
I have an eye exam this morning and we both have our physicals later in the month with a brand new doctor. That's a bit nerve wracking.
    Blessings,

  7. Your teacups are so pretty. The photo of the dahlia is just incredible. I can see the light coming through the petals. What a gorgeous color and form dahlias have! I hope your sunshine sticks around. We also had rain yesterday and early this morning. October is the rainiest month where I live in the desert. Odd! I am just planning on continuing to clean in October, and I also want to start up watercoloring again. Your freezer bounty of scones and cupcakes sounds soooo good!

  9. Love your Hello October sign and those dahlias are gorgeous! Your baking sounds great too....sorry so pictures to see the finished products.....they always look so tempting when you bake! I'm thinking of making a pumpkin loaf with teeny tiny choc. chips. Maybe I'll tackle that tomorrow. No big plans for October....just watching the leaves and pine needles fall like rain this year! :)

  10. We are starting out October with rain! Yay! Rainy days make us want a sweet snack and a cup of coffee. Dahlias make me think of my grandmother. Red ones were her favorites! I love the beautiful tea cup!

  11. Here October has arrived with lots of rain, after two months with alomst no rain. I also had a baking day yesterday to fill the freezer. I made a "Kringle", it is a sweet dough with yeast. I made one filled with cinnamon/butter/sugar and raisins, and one with almond filling. I also baked rolls.

  13. Our temps are staying pretty mild for northern Minnesota. So glad for that. You're such a good baker. I'd love to drop by for one of your baked treats. Hugs from Minnesota!
