Fall Flowers

Is it getting colder where you live?  This morning our temperature was 11C (58F) which felt chilly. Still we had our breakfast on the porch, reluctant to admit that the time has come to move our breakfasts indoors. Hopefully we can still eat lunch and supper out there for a few more weeks.

We made a quick trip to the plant shop yesterday. I like getting some pots of mixed Fall flowers and I had so many to choose from. No two seemed the same combination of plants but I managed to make my choices. Some of the plants are perennials so those will go into the ground at some later date.

The picture above was taken at the shop and the one below shows a couple of the ones I chose. On the right is a pot with an ornamental Kale. Sorry the picture is so dark

Today is our oldest granddaughter Kate's birthday. We'll drop by to see her and take her a pot of flowers when she gets home from work. DH asked if I'd make cheese biscuits so I'll probably do that this afternoon. The days pass so quickly, don't they?   It's morning then all too soon the day is coming to an end. I sure notice that the days are getting shorter.

Thanks for coming by,    Granny M

  1. It's rather nippy here as well. That cooler air got here quicker than I thought it would. Tell your granddaughter Kate happy birthday for me.

  5. Happy Birthday to Kate.
    Beautiful blooms.
Yes, the days sure do go by fast!!!
Mornings here are in the high 30's to low 40's F. Warms up some during the day.

  6. I like your flowers.
Yes, the days do pass too quickly. I am now finding myself hurrying again. Sigh.

  7. Breakfast on the porch is fine! Slowly here in the Bavarian Forest the nights become rather cold. But we also still can sit in our garden. Lovely colors of the flowers!

  8. I love the choices you made when choosing flowers for fall. The nights here are much cooler. We finally pulled up the extra coverlet on the bed.

  9. I also notice the shorter days! The sun is coming over our mountains a whole hour later than it did in the summer and it is getting dark a whole hour earlier! No wonder the days seem so short!

But I like the changing seasons and I have no complaints. We have had mornings in the 40s, and it is much cooler during the day!

    Sending my best wishes, Fran

  12. It is raining here in Spring - this year is a record for rainfall since records were kept. I still have my heater on when up in my shed late at night- rather cold - the days however are getting warmer - thankfully. All the best. KEV.

  13. Pretty flowers! Happy birthday to your granddaughter. Our temps here are going up and down. Very chilly this past weekend (a high of 59 one day), but tomorrow the high is supposed to be about 80! Ah well. I'm ready for sweaters and gloves :)

  15. Sorry that I'm a day late with birthday wishes for Kate!
I like your poster with the "BER" months - very apt, to be sure! I have never thought of those months like that before!
I finally gave in and turned on the furnace this morning. Just too chilly and with only a high of 6C today, the house won't warm up much. We are expecting a low of -5C tonight. When they start stating windchills (-9 tonight), we definitely know that we are in the "BER" months!

  16. As your days grow shorter, so ours grow longer. I always find that strange :)

  19. Our mornings have been nice — high 50’s low 60’s but the afternoons are still hot. They say maybe next week…..not holding my breath.

  20. Yes, sadly we've hit the Ber months. I'm not a fan of any of them. I officially started my count down til Spring. I like to have Spring, then Summer, and then back to Spring again. We're past cool weather here and into cold. We had frost on the ground this am. When I got up it was on 34F, not sure how cold it got through the night. Nice fall flowers you found.

  21. Very pretty flowers and I like your choices. Lucky granddaughter to get some of her own. I'm not a fan of the cold months when we're trapped inside. Unfortunately, since we moved east, the summer months aren't a lot better because ot the high humidity. I do miss Washington and our mountains. I'm trying to be content here, where God has placed us for this time of our lives, but most days are spent inside because of heat or cold!
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  22. It's been foggy and cold here, but this week the high is supposed to be in the 80's, so I keep putting off lighting the fire I laid in the woodstove. My daughters said, "Life is short! Light the fire!" but so far I can get by with just putting on a jacket and drinking hot tea :-)
