I am making a pot of Borscht and the house smells wonderful. If you are not familiar with Borscht, it's a soup of Ukrainian origin in which root vegetables and cabbage are the main ingredients. Dill is the herb used to give it its distinct flavour. Last Spring I sowed a row of dill which grew but when it was only a few inches high it all died. Later I discovered that some dill was growing in the flowerbed in the front. Look at this healthy clump. I will let it drop seeds and look for it in this area next year.
Granddaughter Kate came after work yesterday to pick up the kitten she chose. Doesn't she look happy? She already has a 2 year old cat and a rather old but sweet dog.
We had a bit of rain yesterday and more is in the forecast for later in the week. Meanwhile today is sunny but cool. I should go out and take advantage of the sunshine. Thanks for coming by,
Granny M
I wondered if members of your family would be taking home a kitty. Your granddaughter made a great choice...darling kitten. Glad you are getting some rain. We may be getting more this coming week, but for now it is quite warm and very windy. Almost too windy to get out and about to soak up sunshine.
ReplyDeleteBorscht...never had it. And I like beets and dill both. I should try it. Do you have a special recipe? Awww, the kitty will have a sweet home I'm sure. Your granddaughter is very cute too!!!
ReplyDeleteI love Borsch. Earthy flavour and an energiser. Friends' grandma often cooked it for me
ReplyDeleteShe looks so happy to have her kitten. :)
ReplyDeleteI've never had Borscht but I'm sure I'd like it. I use dill quite often in cooking.
I never had Borscht but I heard about this special a soup. Now I know more: cabbage makes the special smell! Good cook Granny Marigold!
ReplyDeleteO look, the small cat with your most lovely Granddaughter1 Good luck for all!
Greetings and blessings from rather warm October in the Bavarian Forest!
I think your Kate chose the kind of kitty that I would pick. So cute. I hope her other pets will welcome this little one! Your soup sounds good but I've never tried it. I love dill though....glad you found some growing after all!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet kitty she chose! Borscht is delicious! I like to add sour cream to my bowl of Borscht 🥰
ReplyDeleteToday would have been a good day for borscht! I've never had much luck growing dill in my garden and end up buying it if I want to make pickles or anything. Your granddaughter looks so sweet with the little kitty. Lots of love and cuddles there.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try that soup one day. Do you have a special recipe? I had a quick look for a recipe but there seems to be different ways of making it.
ReplyDeleteYour grand-daughter looks so happy with her new kitty :)
I am sure the kitten will be happy with your happy granddaughter!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute kitty!
ReplyDeleteI think we will have to get used to our sunshine without much warmth now. It sure was a sudden temperature change.
Yes, I am sure your house smells wonderful preparing and cooking Borscht.
ReplyDeleteYour grand-daughter looks very happy with her new kitty.
All the best Jan
What a happy granddaughter... wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI've eaten borscht before, but never prepared it myself.
But I made apple cranberry crumble last week. I discovered the crumble in your blog... we don't have that.
It was delicious with whipped cream for afternoon coffee.
At the weekend I baked my typical apple pie - But I put apples on one half and plums on the other half... so apple and plum pie... all at once :-)))
Many greetings to you. Viola
I've never had borscht but it does sound good. Kate looks so happy to have her new kitty. Do you think the older cat and dog will take to the kitty? Zoey isn't sure what to make of her new home. We spent the night in the apartment last night for the first time and there are lots of new sounds and smells to get used to. :-)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Mjammie: borscht is one of the most delicious vegetable soups. Beetroot is the main ingredient. I often make chicken soup, you?
ReplyDeleteMy daughter in law is from Moldova and they are often eating Borscht . Glad you have found nice families for the kittens. Your granddaughter looks very happy with her new kitten!
ReplyDeleteI want borscht now.

That kitty went to a good home!!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet that the little kitten will stay in the family. They look very happy together. Your granddaughter has the prettiest smile! I have only ever had borscht made with beets, which I did not like, but your recipe sounds much yummier. I like cabbage.
