Tea cups and a Birthday

On the weekend we went to a couple of garage sales; mostly there was nothing that I wanted but when I spotted this gift set, still  unopened,  I knew I had found a treasure.  I paid $4.00.

When it came time to put them somewhere I had to do some rearranging to make room.  All the things that were in this old cupboard were things I no longer cared much about so I packed them away. In 6 months I'll go through them and if I still don't want them out they'll go. Then came the fun part....putting these dishes in their new spots. I may change these around. Seems a bit empty.

The photos hanging on the wall over the cupboard are of my Dad and his brother, their parents and their grandparents ( who actually raised the boys after both parents died). These pics were taken in Russia.

The littlest grand turns 6 today. He is such a great little guy. When asked what he wanted for his birthday supper he said " Granny's vegetable soup, fresh bread, and blue jello.  I have the breadmaker going ( I just use the "dough" feature and bake the bread in the oven because we prefer the end result)
The blue jello is in the fridge ( What I found was "Jolly Rancher"blue raspberry flavour.)  Won't need to start the soup until later in the afternoon.  Here he is peering over the gift bag. I'd love to post pics of him and his sister but my DIL has asked me not to show them clearly and I respect that. Just take my word for it that they are super sweet and cute. (not that I'm biased).

It's not quite as unbearably hot today and I've been working outside all morning. A person sure has more energy when its cooler. Ripped out overgrown plants and did a lot of dead heading.  Looks so much neater.  Now I'm going to put the kettle on for a pot of tea. Thanks for visiting.

  2. Aw, your grandson is a gem!
I tend to be a bit of a 'snob' when collecting china, and generally only buy the 'Made in England' china, not the China china:) Must be because I was born there! Your set is very pretty though, and I love your old cupboard. I could easily collect furniture too, but there is only so much room, so I have to look the other way most of the time. Loving the slightly cooler temperature too!
