Sunday Morning Walk

It's a lovely sunny day. The temperature was just 3 degrees above freezing this morning but now, just past lunchtime, it's quite comfortable out there with short sleeves.
It's been a strange week. DH overdid the digging in the garden and managed to get a wry neck. It was so painful he ended up in the ER but really nothing could be done about it so they sent him home with pain meds. Which are not terribly effective.
The pain in the neck doesn't prevent him from walking and we've kept up with our morning walks as usual. I thought I'd take my camera along this morning and just take pictures as we walked around the lake and home again.

Did you see the turtles on a log in the picture above?  If not below is a closer view. We watched another turtle s l o w l y make his way onto a log one millimeter at a time. We didn't stick around long enough to see him actually get to the top.

We walk past this Monkey Puzzle tree on our way back. I can't imagine how old this one must be.
Monkey Puzzle trees are extremely long-lived and grow about 30 to 40m tall  (60-70 ft.) in their natural state which is in South America.

Now I am going to take a nap then go outside and do a bit of light gardening before heading off to youngest son's to play Dominoes.

Thanks for visiting today,

Granny M.

  2. I'm tiptoeing in here so as not to disturb your nap. I thoroughly enjoyed the sights from your morning walk. How sweet to see the turtles enjoying the sunshine. I have never seen or heard of a Monkey Puzzle tree. How interesting and pretty too. So sorry to hear of your husband's neck pain. I do hope he will be feeling better real soon.

  4. Loved your description of the turtle making his way up the log, lol. I've always wondered what a monkey puzzle tree looked like. I'll wonder no longer! I skipped the walk today because it was really windy out. I usually love windy days, but it was cold enough that I think it would have been miserable, and sand was blowing around. Hope your hubby's neck improves quickly! I feel his pain! :)

  5. Oh No! I hope your DH neck is much better by now! Oh that pain in the neck is bad stuff too! Girl, 3 degrees above freezing!!!! WOW and WOW! It is suppose to get up to 89 here today. It's really been nice cool mornings and warming up by lunch. I love these kind of days though. Not hot and not cold. I hope that you have a great week. Love your pictures. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  8. So sorry to hear about your husband's misfortune in the garden! A sore neck is so very painful! And muscles take a while to heal, glad that you can still walk though! Beautiful pictures of the area you live in, love the gorgeous lake! So lovely to see the red winged blackbirds again! Enjoy your week and this lovely sunshine-y weather :)

  9. Walking should help a kinked neck. But another technique that I've found very effective (read about it in Robin Mackenzie's book Treat Your Own Neck) is relieving the neck of the work of holding up the head, while stretching the muscles and ligaments *very gently.* Lie on your back across a full size or larger bed with your head hanging off the edge a little bit, just enough that gravity is pulling it slightly. You can lie there for five minutes or as long as you want, and I find that it relieves the pain while you are there, at the very least. It usually promotes complete healing in a day or two. Sometimes I've had to do it several times in a day. Good luck to your husband.

It's also good when doing any yard work, etc, or maybe once a day, to do a few neck stretches to counteract all of the sitting or twisting the wrong way or whatever we might have done during the day. At least before bed. But maybe the doctor gave your husband some of these exercises already. My husband carried all his stress in his neck and shoulders so we became "experts" - ;-)

  14. What do you mean a wry neck? Stiff? Catch in it? Just wondered. Roll a hand towel up...and place under the neck when laying flat of back. I forget the original length of time the chiropractor had me do it...but I do it for 10-15 minutes. and I was supposed to turn my head and look each direction while laying like that. And I did it a few times a day with my injury...which was about 35 years ago. You would laugh if you heard how I got whip lash.

You do have such wonderful places to walk...
