Lemon Curd and Iris

Have you tried making home made lemon curd?   I've heard people rave about how delicious both the store bought and home made taste so I looked up a recipe for easy lemon curd and made it. It has nice texture, a tiny bit 'gritty' and very lemony. Not nearly as sweet as the store bought.

Below is a picture I took off the internet and also the ingredients are below the pic.

INGREDIENTS: Glucose-Fructose Syrup, Sugar, Water, Lemon Juice from Concentrate (8%), Maize Starch, Palm Oil, Dried Egg, Rapeseed Oil, Citric Acid, Gelling Agent (Pectin), Acidity Regulator (Sodium Citrate), Lemon Oil, Colour (Carotenes), Antioxidant (Ascorbic Acid).

Here's what's left of the curd I made. Obviously paler and it doesn't have all the strange ingredients of the above. Just lemons, sugar, eggs, and butter.

Well, I made it and now I know. I doubt I'll make it again. I just wondered if anyone else made it and would they make it again.

I brought a bunch of Iris in and put them on the table. The light blue one has a wonderful scent and fills the room with it. None of my other Iris have much, if any, scent.

Thanks for coming by,

  3. Seems like I've heard of lemon curd, but have never made it or tasted it. It looks pretty. Your Iris are beautiful. The iris grown here don't have a scent either.

  4. I have made it many times and given it as gifts, too. It's probably my favorite "dessert" to eat out of a spoon! When I could still get bags and bags of lemons from my family -- no one has a tree anymore :-( -- I especially liked to use them this way.

We used to buy lime curd, but I haven't had that in a while. It was awfully good as well.

  7. The colour of the premade lemon curd is rather unnatural I think, and I see it has added colour. I would also think that the colour of the egg yolks would have a lot to do with the final colour. I think we ate it a lot as a kid, a British thing maybe. Not sure if my mum made it or not, but probably some of the time at least. I haven't made it, and probably won't, and haven't eaten any in a very long time.

  10. Your blooms are ahead of ours, our iris have not yet bloomed, I'm waiting somewhat impatiently for them :) I've not made homemade lemon curd, but it is delicious, agreed, either way!

  12. I make my own lemon pie filling, but don't know if that is different from curd. I always add an extra yolk than the recipe says, seems to be yellower and maybe a little thicker that way. I just do what works for me. Phil
