We went to a garage sale this morning and found a very nice stainless steel range hood. We had planned to change our old one which DH built back when our cupboards were new. It was made of oak as are the cupboards but it was time to change it. This one even has lights which our old one did not.
Our two younger sons came to help and the three of them were busy doing a bit of 'remodeling' which always seems to be necessary when changing almost anything when my DH got one heck of a shock...the electrical kind. Both boys were horrified that he hadn't bothered to flip the breaker. I think all three were so relieved that DH was okay and it all ended in great hilarity. I would have liked to make a video of the whole thing. I thought I just had to share this slice of life in this household!!
Here they arehard at work figuring out how to fit the new hood in. I think this was before the shocking episode!

Nice range hood!! Glad to hear the electrical shock was not serious!!
ReplyDeleteYour stove looks exactly like the one I had at the old house!!!
Yikes! I'm glad to hear that story had a happy ending. After we moved into our house my husband was trying to unscrew the oven lightbulb which wasn't working. He ended up with a deep cut in his finger. I thought to myself how hard can this be. At that point I tried to gently unscrew it and it went "poof" and sent out a few sparks which scared me. We gave up and called GE to send someone out. Who knew changing a lightbulb could be so difficult.
ReplyDeleteThe new range hood looks great.
Very nice hood and great you found it at a garage sale!!! Sometimes you can find great bargains. WoW, hubby was very blessed that his shock wasn't too serious.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! Glad to know your DH wasn't hurt by that shock! Your kitchen cabinet wood looks so nice - I love the color. Have a lovely Sunday full of blessings, G.M. ♥
ReplyDeleteThankfully it all ended in laughter and wonderful that everyone as there to help.
ReplyDeleteOh, so glad the shock was not serious! The hood looks nice...and that stove looks like mine, too. Mine us GE..
ReplyDeleteGlad everyone's okay! Good to have some handy guys who can figure out how to make things fit! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you got a new hood and that your husband is okay! It looks so good! By the way, you commented on my post about not being able to get the batter to stick to fried green tomatoes.........slice the tomatoes and lightly season them...this will make them weep. I use a cup of flour with a couple tablespoons of cornmeal mixed( you can use just flour) . Dip the tomatoes in the flour mixture , then into milk or buttermilk, then back into the flour mixture. This helps the coating to stay on. Then fry in a skillet of vegetable oil until golden brown. Best eaten warm with a side of ranch dressing. Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathleen. I will try it as soon as I have some tomatoes.
DeleteOh dear! I'm so glad he's okay, but that must've been scary. The new hood looks so nice!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that W. is okay after his shock. Reminds me of when we put in a new backsplash and kitchen counter and hubby too forgot about the breakers as he was working on the outlet. He got a mighty shock as well and that spark burnt a spot into my brand new countertop.

Oh, that is so scary! Glad he is okay. I get nervous every time Poppy works on something electrical. The new hood looks good. I had to go searching for your blog this morning, knowing that I had been missing you lately. Hope to do better at blogging when this gardening season is over. :)
ReplyDeletePraise the Lord for that shock not being serious at all. WOW! That is a little frightening. Oh I love your hood! I need to replace mine but have never gotten around to it. Those dang things are pricey too. I even bought appliance paint to repaint the one I have but sadly I haven't done that either! I hope that you have a wonderful 4th of July. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteWowza, glad DH is okay! That's always the first thing I say if Larry is doing anything electrical 'Did you turn the breaker off?' We also bought a range hood at a garage sale, many years ago, and it could be replaced now I think. Don't have time for many GS at this time of the year, too busy getting ready for the farmers market on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad all went well installing the hood and no one got shocked. Glad you got the new hood for your stove. It looks good.
ReplyDeleteA good job on the hood. I've done the same with a shock, but it taught me a lesson. Now I check it twice!
