I think I'm about done with craft sales. I walk by all the lovely things but there's nothing I really want, at least, I'm not willing to pay as much for. I took pictures but bought nothing.
I believe it was last year that Mama's Mercantile posted that she had a red mixing bowl that she only used at Christmas for her baking. I thought that was such a great idea that I started my search for my own red bowl. It is a heavy one ( as opposed to the little plastic red one that I use every day).
Here's my fruit cake being mixed up.
This is what it looked like when I took it out of the oven. I've made Christmas cake for many years but I think this year's turned out the best ever. Very dark and moist.
I baked it in an 8 by 12 pan and cut it into 5 slightly crooked pieces. I wrapped them in aluminum foil. Two have already been given to fruit cake lovers. Whether they eat them now or keep them for Christmas is up to them.
Thanks for stopping by today. I love to read all comments so please don't hesitate to leave one.

This year's fruitcake is excellent indeed!

I bought my fruit cake ingredients yesterday when I was loading up my cart in order to qualify for a free turkey. The turkey is for Christmas, and the fruit cake, which I will make right after Thanksgiving, will be wrapped in brandy soaked cheese cloth, sealed up, and stored away for Christmas too.
ReplyDeleteYour cake looks delicious, very full of fruit.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wide variety of stalls at the Craft market, sometimes it can be a bit of an overload though.
I love craft fairs but they are both usually expensive and crowded. My town has one in December that I plan on going to- if only to support the local merchants who make such beautiful things! Fruit cake is a weakness of mine. I think I will try my hand at making one- and make it nut-free for my kids' sake.
ReplyDeleteI am the same at craft sales. I love it all, but I feel like I have a lot, at this point in life. What else do I need?! I don't make fruitcake, but will make bourbon balls soon. A classic :)
ReplyDeleteI've never tasted a bourbon ball but I did look them up and found many different recipes. Maybe I'll try making some for Christmas.
DeleteI feel the same as you about craft shows. It was nice to see all the lovely things though.
ReplyDeleteYum, yum, I love fruitcake and yours looks downright delicious! I wish I was there to sample it for you!!! Love your big heavy red bowl too. Such a cute blog. All the items at the sale looked nice too. Thanks for sharing so many nice things.
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane, I'd love to have you come over for tea ( or coffee) and cake!!
DeleteYour fruitcake does look good! I was thinking about having a fruitcake this year for Christmas, for old times' sake, when my grandfather used to send one to everyone in the family each year. They were always welcome in our family!
ReplyDeleteI get overwhelmed with all the pretty things at places like that...and sometimes I will tell myself I am going to buy something...anything...but then get there and it is the same old thing. So now I just like to take photos...it is the reason I go for the most part.
ReplyDeleteGood for you on getting some baking done...
The cake looks good.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same with craft sales. I enjoy to look at the beautiful crafts, but do I really want or need anything? I am in an age where I feel more for give things away rather to buy new. My home is filled up! Your Christmas cake looks very good!
ReplyDeleteIm still loving the craft fairs and bake sales. I think its cos Ive waited all year for them...lol
ReplyDeleteYour cake looks amazing. Hubby dosnt like fruit cake...but next year..Ive decided to make a little one...just for me...xxx
Fruitcake is definitely my hubby's favorite. Yours looks oh-so-delicious! I used to find some nice things at craft shows, but not anymore. The old masters are gone, I am afraid!
ReplyDeleteI could never understand the fruitcake jokes. I love it! Yours looks great. I look at the nice crafts, and think, I could make that, if I really wanted it. And also know that at some point much of that will end up at a thrift store. I've seen aprons and tea cosies that I've made, in the thrift store. Good thing not everyone is a thrifter!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I lost my mom's fruitcake recipe. Sad because it was amazing! But really expensive to make. Have you shared your recipe somewhere? Love the red bowl. My favorite color! :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post. I like the red mixing bowl. It reminds me of one my Mother had. And your cake looks delicious. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteI have never been a fan a fruit cake but I have never tasted a homemade one. I am sure that would make a huge difference and probably turn me into a fruit cake lover.
ReplyDeleteI go out and look at beautiful crafts and homemade items and take photos of things I think I could make myself. I do not have a budget for lots of extras.
Wishing you a lovely day.
Connie:)
I rarely buy things at craft fairs and in novelty shops anymore. I have so much STUFF and no room for more, and I don't want to get rid of what I have - I like it! :) Looks like a nice fair though.
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas cake looks wonderful, so moist! I've never seen an 8x12 pan! We have 8x8" and 11x13. Interesting! Your big red bowl is just perfect.
