This and That

A cup of herbal tea and a thrift store treasure. Small Churches of Canada, full of pictures and write-ups about, well, small churches photographed by the writer, with a short  description of each. I'm enjoying this book a few pages at a time.

We got out our Christmas lights and checked to see how many had died since we packed them up last January.  How is it that they can just quit even though they worked fine until we took them down?
A couple of strings of the multi-coloured ones no longer worked so off we went to the thrift store where we found a nice long set for $2.   Of course we had a little look-around and found a display of Christmas CDs for .50 each,  We have started playing Christmas music already and were in need of more variety.  Ten CDs cost a fraction of what one single new CD would cost.

The Paperwhite bulbs I bought a week or so ago are showing some growth at last.  They had sprouted in the box and were very crooked. I'm pleased they seem to be straightening up.
Hopefully they will bloom in time for Christmas.

Thanks for visiting today.  Obviously nothing much is happening around here but I just wanted to pop by and say HI.  I hope you're having a great day!!

  2. That sure is a nice book of small churches...and great that you found it at a thrift store. I should just go get new lights. I would pay a lot more if they would make some that would last several years. It seems like they don't last very long at all.

I have not been anywhere to see paperwhite, but I really think I will get some if I see them! Just to have something to watch grow.

  4. Forgive me if I am being rude, but what is sitting beneath your cup and saucer? It looks intriguing, especially as I can see a couple of butterflies (which I love).
Hope you have an enjoyable weekend :)

    1. I had to go look what I had on my little table and it's an old greeting card. I use it ( and others that I don't want to throw away) as bookmarks. The card is on a note pad which is on yet more 'stuff'. There's also a lovely bookmark with butterflies on it ( I'll post it next blog post so you can see it).

    2. Thanks for your comment on my blog - replying here is great as this is where it is relevant. It all made for a very interesting - and mysterious - background to your photo. What a great idea to use them as bookmarks, and yes I would love to see your butterfly one. Mxx

  6. The book of churches looks so nice. I love small churches, big cathedrals can be great and powerful, but I feel more at home in the small ones. You did a good buy with the CD's!

  8. That book looks so enjoyable, like you said, "a few pages at a time". Isn't it fun to happen upon something unexpected! And good for you finding those lights you needed and cds. The white lights on my little grapevine tree had to be replaced, so I picked up a small string last week at Dollar General.

  9. I am looking forward to seeing your paperwhites for Christmas! I usually have to wriggle and press on each bulb on the string until I find the culprit. Why, it just wouldn't seem like Christmas if every light worked the first time! :~)

  12. I love those old Christmas cards in your header. Christmas lights can drive you crazy. I'm excited about decorating this year but since we have lots of family coming for Thanksgiving, will try to wait until the day after to get started. You sure found some good Christmas CD's. Henny

  15. The ones in my box are also starting to grow also. I'm glad your's are coming along. I usually get the Christmas Rose Pointsettia, and try to get it to come back ..... uh no. Every year round this time somebody blogs about these, I was tickled to find them, right next to the Amaryllis at the grocer store. Oh I do hope we both have them for Christmas too. I've read they smell nice. :)Thank you for stopping over and leaving your calling card, I enjoy our visits.

  16. I have a fondness for old churches, and when I see one I like to take pictures of it. Especially the kind which look like they may have been from the Little House era...They are so charming...I do have a few pictures, I should share, Christmas time would be a nice time to do that.

  17. I've only grown paper whites once and would not describe their scent as anything but offensive. The blooms are so beautiful but they stank up the house so badly that my family made me put them outside so I hope you have a more pleasant experience with yours. Your book of small churches is definitely a treasure!
