Apple Picking

Picking apples is such a tradition that although we can buy apples cheaper in the store we still go and enjoy the experience.  We had perfect weather too.  Besides apples we were able to pick some blue plums as well.  I definitely see some delicious desserts on the weekend.

We left the pumpkins for another day. Too soon for those just yet.

Are you planning any U-pick activities this Fall?

Thanks for coming by,  G.M.

  2. Hi G.M. - Picking fresh fruit from the tree cannot be beat. My Cousin Barbra had an Apple Orchard- at end of season a lot of the crop went to the Dryers. My Mom grew up on an Orchard and I've a lovely black and white photo of Mum on a ladder picking fruit- that was on the Orchard out at Monteagle near Young NSW - before WW2. Best Wishes. KEV.

  3. Looks like such fun, and what a pretty day for it. Those pumpkins! I'm so ready for fall, but you are right that it's too early to put pumpkins on the front stoop. Can't wait to see what you bake with all that fruit!!

  4. My favorite apples are Honey Crisp. The only thing I've picked before are strawberries and green beans. No plans to pick any this year.

  5. Picking no longer appeals to me after all these many years. I do like visiting farms and seeing all the produce someone else has picked though.

  6. What kind of apples did you pick? Curious minds want to know.

  8. We have a lot lot of orchards about 4 miles from us. I usually buy about 25 lbs every year and make applesauce and pie filling. Sometimes we pick it, sometimes I buy it in the box if I'm in a hurry. We have two favorite orchards, Walters Fruit Ranch and Hidden Acres. This year there is no extra room in our trailer but we did open the last of the frozen applesauce last night to eat! They all also have peaches and pumpkins too, along with lots fun rides and petting zoos, etc. Unfortunately they said on the news last night that a lot of that won't be happening this year because of Covid.
I can't wait until that goes away, away, away!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  9. How wonderful, it is something that we always enjoyed with out Grandchildren. Sadly, there is nothing local now that we have moved.

  10. Just thinking about the delicious desserts that will come out of your kitchen this weekend makes my mouth water! When the kids were still at home we used to go pick fruits at the local orchards, but not anymore... :~(

  11. I haven't picked my own apples in many years, but I'm looking forward to going to our favorite apple ranch soon to see which of their 30 varieties are ready that week. I got a dehydrator and the dried apples I tried were wonderful!!
