Monday

The second week of the month already!!  It seems that many areas, ours included, are having much colder temperatures than so far this winter. Must be global warming...or would that be cooling?

There was no wind when I walked this morning and the sun was shining. Lovely for being outside.

I saw 2 Robins and heard a Mourning Dove cooing. That always makes me think of something Susan Branch wrote after she and Joe came back from England. She said that the doves there sounded like they were saying "Who cooks for you?".

Nothing much happening here except the usual and I hear youngest son has arrived to help his dad on another project. (I'll be out there with the camera).  Thanks for coming by.

  2. The birds say hallo to you and you to them. That the doves ask you for cooking fine meal is normal for everyone, who knows your delicious kitchen!

Fine: father and son working together!

Here in Europe suddenly winter came back very strong in all regions, even in regoins, which normaly are without snow.

Have a fine good new week!

  3. Not much happening here, either. Just cold weather, work, and making it through the days. I am looking forward to spring!

  4. Well, that was helpful! Now I won't think the many, many mourning doves are saying something sad. I always thought they were piping some sad phrase. Now they are just inquiring "Who cooks for you?" I have to laugh because it DOES sound like they are saying that, exactly!

  5. Not really colder here this year but certainly more days of it snowing!!! I love to hear the mourning doves.

  6. Robins were flocking to a nearby holly tree today so now we can expect berries to disappear from shrubs. I wonder if Cedar Waxwings will come.

  7. It was quiet here today too. I crocheted a bunny! It's my first animal in years. It's getting much, much colder as the week goes on and will definitely be a test of our cold weather precautions for the RV. The winter so far has been fairly mild. Several snows, but not really cold weather. We're told that by the end of the week we'll have single digit temps with the wind chill significantly below zero. That's not good for an RV. We'll just keep praying it all goes well and the pipes and hoses don't freeze. Take care and stay safe.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. I have been seeing a robin here and there...doves have been at the feeders. The week has gotten off to a cold start and supposed to get even colder this coming weekend.

  11. We have several doves at the feeders every day. They are one of my favorites. I love to listen to their cooing.

  12. Oh how exciting to see the robins! Here it will take at least another 2 months but then with our weather, who can blame them! I got a chuckle out of the "Who cooks for you?" but it is how the mourning doves sound, isn't it?

  13. It has definitely been a colder winter here too. I see Mourning Doves most days and now I will be paying closer attention to their calls. I look forward to seeing photos of your newest project.

  14. Our weather is always so crazy, a few sunny mild days, a few gloomy rainy days, back and forth. We never know from day to day if we'll need the A/C or the heat. Supposed to be really cold here this weekend, low expected to be 26*. That's really low for us here on the Texas coast.

  15. The year seems to be going by quite quickly so far, even if it is one mundane day after another!
I saw Mourning Doves and Robins when visiting my daughter - we don't have either of them here.
    Enjoy your week :) xx

  16. And some people think it is a Barred Owl who says that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri6dj8ABpKQ This is Richard Wilbur reading his own poem on the subject.

    1. I have never heard of Richard Wilbur. Thanks for sending me that link. I enjoyed hearing The Barred Owl and didn't realize that its call also sounded like that.

  17. I love that. We have lots of wild doves in our garden and a pet dove and I will think that now when I hear them!

  20. I think we are all looking forward to spring . . . I love getting outside and getting my hands in the warm earth. We are having very cold temperatures this week and the wind is blowing and making it feel even colder. Good time to stay inside :)
You were absolutely right about my Butchy having his nose out of joint, but they are becoming friends. He has been our one and only dog for 11 years and although he is the little guy, he doesn't have any problem in letting Beulah know who the top dog is, LOL. Getting this puppy has been a lot of extra work, but at this time in my life and how lonely it feels, it has been a blessing caring and training her. I think she is going to be a great little companion.

  21. This is the longest part of the winter for me, the time after Christmas, it's dark, gray and cold. While I like the change of seasons, and the quietness of winter, I have to take the good with the bad. It's in the teens, gray and snowy. It will make the blooms and scents even that more glorious when they do happen. Enjoy watching my little sprouts.
