Thanksgiving is now history and it was lovely having family over. Today I felt tired so I didn't do much. Just a bit of housework. Returned my books to the library and picked up one I had requested.
This is not my house. A local person has pumpkins and gourds for sale and this is the picture they posted of what I assume must be beside their front door. Isn't it lovely?
Have you heard of Taiyaki? I know I sure hadn't until this weekend. Middle son likes to experiment in the kitchen and he decided to try making fish-shaped waffles filled with sweet bean paste. He had to order the special waffle maker that looks like this:
and you end up with something that looks like this! Taiyaki. I would have preferred it to be sweeter but the grands enjoyed them and I think they look cute.
Teacups # 16 and 17
Thanks for visiting today, GM
This fish-baking-cake-machine is a big surprise!! :)
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful autumn-decoration, I love the colours and the fruits and flowers!
Pretty wine color.
ReplyDeleteHi G.M., I hope you are feeling well and on top of your game- some days I feel a bit 'flat' - though it passes given some good rest. Stay safe and well there in Canada. KEV.
ReplyDeleteNo, I had not heard of Taiyaki...they sure are cute.
ReplyDeleteI love both teacups. Happy Belated Thanksgiving....I did think of it but not when at the computer.
I have never heard about Taiyaki, it looks very nice! There is so much interesting food around the world!
ReplyDeleteI am fascinated by the taiyaki. That is really something special! Seeing those gourds and pumpkins makes me determined to grow some next year. My pumpkin vines died this year, something was wrong from the get-go. What a cheery holiday-color display of your teacups! And the books go perfectly with them -- guess you knew that, though! LOL
ReplyDeleteLoving those tea cups! I have never seen a waffle maker like that one Gm. I bet the kids think it's a hoot though. Lovely front porch. Very fallish. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteAnd here I was all set to tell you how beautiful your front door area is! HA! Ha! It is really pretty. I have had taiyaki. It's pretty good if you like bean paste which is sort of an aquired taste. I like moochi too. Beautiful teacups. They look very elegant, like they belong in the Queen's dining room.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
The waffley fish look cute. Glad to hear the kids liked them. I enjoy trying new things in the kitchen, too.
ReplyDeleteNot so sure I would like bean paste in a pancake...but the shape is cute! Hope you rested up!
ReplyDeleteThe fish waffles are cute, but I can skip the bean paste.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of Taiyaki. Don't know if I'd like bean paste but would certainly give the cute waffle fish a try.
ReplyDeleteYes, the gourds in front of the door are lovely.
Like the red and white tea cups.
Hi GM! Those books look good! I am glad you rested after Thanksgiving! xo
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of taiyaki before! How very interesting. Hmmm, not so sure about the bean paste though...would it work to substitute it with a jam or preserve of some sort? The fall display is so lovely. I did that exactly once using dried corn stalks, pumpkins, ornamental corn, etc. and then realized that I was providing an "all-you-can-eat" buffet for the field mice (we live in the country) so that got taken down very quickly!
ReplyDeleteLove those wine bordered teacups! They are understated but so regal!
Ellabi
Well that little fish waffle iron made the cutest little fish, but I would prefer butter and syrup with it. :) You have the most beautiful teacups.
ReplyDeleteI'm very interested in the Taiyaki griddle, because it looks like a possible gift for people who have everything - haha!
ReplyDeleteInteresting that you thought the resulting fish cake was not sweet enough... that sweet bean paste always seems to me to make savory foods too sweet. I'll have to look at some recipes....
Couldn't help noticing your Helen Allingham book. I adore her style of painting, even if she was probably more romantic than factual with it. I have a book of village paintings that her work features in quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteNot sure that I would enjoy that fishy waffle though!
After a busy day (or days) it's good to just take some time and do very little. What an interesting fish waffle - that's something very new to me. Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteLove the Taiyaki idea and the fish shaped waffles. I've often wondered what sweet bean paste tastes like. I've been binge watching a YouTube channel called Solo Travel Japan in which a young man travels all over in huge ferry boats, buses and trains and eats many Japanese foods. I love that kind of thing. Probably the only traveling I'll do! :) I love the lady's pumpkin and gourd arrangement!
