October is a month in which our family celebrates many birthdays and anniversaries. Yesterday was Youngest Son's birthday and today is Eldest Daughter's. It also is National Chocolate cupcake Day!!
I'll warn you already that tomorrow is "Evaluate your life" day. That gives you lots of time to start evaluating ( just kidding).
On this day in 1929 a landmark Canadian women's rights court case decided that "yes, women are persons". The decision by the Privy Council was thanks in great measure to the efforts of the Albertan social activist Emily Murphy whose appointment in 1916 as the first female magistrate was challenged on the basis that women were not persons under British and Canadian law. Today we salute Emily Murphy.
Today's Teacup by Royal Chelsea is # 19 I couldn't decide which photo showed it best so I'll include both.
Thanks for visiting today, GM
Beautiful teacup!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your kids. It's a big month for birthdays and anniversaries in my family too. And chocolate cupcake day? I'll take two. Or three! I'm such a chocoholic.
ReplyDeleteThat cup is gorgeous. You have some beauties.
Blessings,
Betsy
A very beautiful cup and saucer.
ReplyDeleteThat IS a pretty teacup 🤩 many years to all with birthdays!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy all of your celebrating! Such a pretty cup... have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI do like the tea cup and saucer, it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
All hail Emily!! Interesting
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tea cup again...yes, I continue viewing your collection!
Happy birthdays in October
Congratulations and good wishes to your kids and their parents!
ReplyDeleteO really: Women are full human persons??
Have a fine tea! Only best sort of tea fits to this beautiful delicate cup.
There's a couple family birthdays this month in my family too.
ReplyDeleteIf I had known it was chocolate cup cake day I would have baked some. Just as well I didn't know - a cupcake I don't need! :)
It's amazing how long it took for women to be recognized as persons, capable of making decisions and VOTING!
ReplyDeleteHard to believe that as little as 100 years ago, women were still so suppressed and often oppressed. We can be so thankful to those women who fought for us to be regarded as real people with minds of our own and able to have individual rights. Only yesterday, I was discussing with my son how my mail used to be addressed as Mrs (my husband's name). I can still remember receiving my first piece of mail that was actually addressed to ME!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy October with all its family events :) xx
It's amazing to me that it's been less than 100 years since women were declared persons under the law. How crazy is that? What a beautiful teacup. Happy Birthday to your children.
ReplyDeleteI can’t imagine a better month for celebrating birthdays! I have been needing to evaluate my life, so thanks for the tip. Maybe I will have a chocolate cupcake while I do that!
ReplyDeleteI think two photos of this teacup show it in all its beauty.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to.all.
Happy Birthday to all! Good for Emily Murphy. I'm almost afraid to evaluate my life. No telling what I would come up with. :)
ReplyDelete1929 - that's not even 100 years ago, and yet under the law and under the eyes of both men and many women, we were not persons. I guess we were chattel. How awful! It just boggles my mind. I hope your family's October birthdays are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of October Birthday too, my parents, my other baby brother, two nieces and a nephew:)
ReplyDeleteeveryday should be chocolate cupcake day...beautiful teacup and saucers with lovely doily.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a happy month to me! I have three family members with birthdays this month, too! I just finished choosing gifts for them today, so I am happy as well.
ReplyDeleteI see that I missed chocolate cupcake day... But yesterday my daughter and I made a (not very ginger)bread cake, which was an unusual event around here, and it was pretty nice considering it had no eggs or dairy in order to accommodate an allergic child who would eat some.
Many happy returns of the day to your kids!! Looks yummy as usual :)
ReplyDeleteI'm always astounded at legislation like you describe -- that women (or African Americans, or whoever) were not even considered "person" or human beings -- and that somebody would argue a case based on that! It's insanity, and I'm glad that we are at least beginning to pull away from such thinking.
