What's happening in my Kitchen

The chilly weather has made me want to be in the kitchen more.  I have been reading about the health benefits of lentils and although I've often included red lentils in most of the soups I make I had not used the brown ones ( those are the ones that retain their shape even after soaking and boiling).  Below is the picture of the lentil stew  I made and both of us enjoyed  and look forward to having it again soon
.I found so many different recipes for Lentil stew on line and I ended up making my own version.

Baked Oatmeal was another experiment and was deemed a success as was a pan of granola. I have made granola in the past so that wasn't an experiment.

Have you been baking or cooking different foods now that colder weather has arrived?

Teacup # 23 is called Greenwood Tree and is a Royal Albert piece. I've added the saucer picture to give a better look at the pattern but Blogger insists on placing it sideways. Sorry.

Thanks for visiting,  GM

  1. My goodness that cup/saucer set is so intricate in art. Wow is all I can say...wow!!

I love all kinds of soups (make them in slow cooker). IF and when it gets cooler here, I use the oven more. Bud likes that...he gets more pies. lol

  2. I knew as soon as I glanced at it that that cup and saucer were Royal Albert. I have several cups and saucers and a small cake plate in a similar pattern. I bought them in England. Then I found a cream and sugar on line that matched. I have a little teapot that looks similar but is not a Royal Albert.
I have gone back to what I would call heavier cooking now that it is cold again. No more grilling. Of course I need to make sure that cold weather cooking doesn't mean a heavier me. :-)

  3. I must admit I don't cook lentils very much at all.
It really hasn't gotten cold here yet so my cooking is pretty much the same. I tend to make more soups in cold weather.

  4. Your meal looks delicious and good for this season and healthy it is, too. These kind of "beans" are very good for to help the body to come over the wintertime.

My family also likes this! I often make white beans with vegetables and good hot chilly. They love it! Two of my sons are vegetarians, so beans give good stuff for their stomache :)

We call these beans "Serbian bean-soup".

I like, that you always encourage to taste own variations in your kitchen.

The cup with the trees is one of my favourites.

  5. I have been trying not to choose a favorite cup, but if I should, this might be it! :~) It's a chilly and rainy day here so a bowl of lentil soup would surely hit the spot.

  6. I love that tea cup and saucer! So pretty. Your lentil stew looks good and so does the baked oatmeal. The only thing I have made lately was cinnamon streusel muffins today. Maybe we'll make a pot of chili soon!

  7. I do like lentils, and put them in soup on occasion, and sometimes just have the with rice. I like their taste.

  8. That would have to be one of the prettiest teacups in your collection. The pattern is gorgeous :)

  9. I've never seen a teacup like that. It's unusual and beautiful too. I have never cared much for lentils of any kind, including split peas in soup, etc. Dennis like them but I rarely make them.

  10. I made granola today, too. These cooler, wet and grey days inspire cooking, don't they? Another beautiful tea cup and saucer. Royal Albert made so many patterns.

  11. Oh wow, that baked oatmeal looks good. I have been making 15 Bean Soup lately and it has lentils of all kinds in it. Our health food grocery sells all sorts of very strange lentils!

  12. I did fix a pot of chili the other day since it has gotten cooler. I like soup any time, but Roger prefers it in cooler weather.

    Baked oatmeal sounds interesting...

  13. That is such a pretty teacup and saucer, one of my favorites. The lentil stew looks so good. As soon as the weather gets cool I make hamburger chili, and white chicken chili often. I did try a new recipe last week called hamburger surpreme casserole. It calls for cream of mushroom soup and mushrooms and lots of cheese...it was really good.

  14. Hubby made some chili, I've made soup three times, apple pie and baked oatmeal. I also made some granola to have in our yogurt.

  15. I have loved all the baked oatmeal that I've encountered, but I'm not sure I've ever made it. The first I heard of it, it was as a convenient and easy, nutritious breakfast for a big group. And it was about that time that my "big group" was getting smaller...

Lentils were also a steady feature of our diet in those days. I have several recipes for lentil soup that were very popular, with our family and with friends I shared them with. Monastery Lentils and Egyptian Lentils were my favorites. We ate lentil soup several times a month. Your dish of lentils looks good from here!

    Ger
