Friday is for Flowers

Another after Christmas sale that I took advantage of was Amaryllis bulbs which were marked down by 75%. These were very large bulbs ( I actually took photos of them but my computer won't co-operate today and I can only post pics off the internet of what my new bulbs will look like in a few weeks. Hopefully. Two of the Amaryllis have 6" flower bud stalks already. The first picture is of Amaryllis "Clown" and I bought 2 of those.

The third kind is called Terra Cotta.

I also got Paperwhite bulbs marked down. I hope they'll grow, bloom, and look like the picture that was on the box. In case you're not familiar with these bulbs they're meant to grow indoors at this time of the year.

It was grocery shopping this morning followed by a doctor appointment for my DH who still has a lot of back pain. Unfortunately all the doctor could do was to give him a prescription for more pain killers and hope that whatever is causing the pain heals itself with time. Scary how a fall can cause such problems.
We still have a lot of snow and now freezing rain so walking anywhere outside is dangerous. I miss my morning walks!!

Thanks for visiting,  Granny M.

  3. I have a pot of paper whites and an amaryllis hopefully growing on in the greenhouse on a heat mat. We don't have very good light in the house so we bring them in just before blooming.
I am hoping to get out for a walk on Sunday morning. I need to get back to my mile or so of outside walking, and I crave the fresh air.

  4. These flowers are like a first greeting into the new year and waiting for the first spring. Something new is coming, beautiful and with fine colours.

Sorry for the pain of your husband's back after the accident. This really can last longer. Thanks goodness we have good medicine for pain.

We exspect tomorrow ome snow. Be careful because of ice. I know you are careful.

  5. Beautiful flowers you got! Lucky you! So sorry for your husband's sore back. We have a chiropractor that takes care of all our back pains. He's not a normal chiropractor, but a special kind with very different training. If you have pain anywhere, he finds the source and works on it until you're better. I'll pray for your husband. Take good care....don't go out walking on the ice.

  6. I have never grown paper-whites but am an admirer of them. I am sure you will have great luck with all your bulbs. I checked on my garden bed today where I had baby foxgloves growing and was sad to see that they haven’t survived the freezing temps. I should have piled on more dead leaves I guess, or maybe it’s just not meant for me to have foxgloves. I hope your husband’s back heals quickly.

  7. Gorgeous flowers. I've never had either amaryllis or paperwhites but I always think how beautiful they are. I'm sorry to her about your dear husband. Back pain is miserable. I hope he's soon on the mend.
I dropped Zoey at the vet at 7:15 this morning and then went to the grocery store. There were very, very few people there which was nice. I must admit, I avoid people as much as possible these days.
    Have a great evening!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  9. I am sorry to hear that your husband's back pain continues. I wonder if a muscle tightened up so much that it was injured. The amaryllis are going to be beautiful. "Terra Cotta" reminds me of the famous "Apple Blossom" amaryllis, only in a different color. I have some paperwhites coming up outside.

  11. My Amaryllis, which was pale pink and white, had three flowers. It's over now, sadly.

  15. The flowers are lovely. I am sorry about your husband back - such a miserable situation to be in. If they didn’t find anything on an x-ray then I would say a muscle is involved and that could take a while. Yes, falling is scary, very scary.

  16. I smiled at your indoor comment about Paperwhites as they grow outside here - but, then, we don't have freezing temperatures like you do. I feel for your hubby and hope he will soon improve, but I know in the meantime you will be the one looking after him so make sure you take care of yourself as well :) xx

  17. So wonderful to get beautiful bloomers on 75% off, a great savings! You will enjoy the gorgeous blooms! I'm so sorry about your husband's fall. Have they tried physical therapy for him? Sometimes specific exercises can help. Back pain is just horrible! I understand about your snow and now freezing rain, we have gotten some of the same weather. We wear ice picks on our boots now. A good idea in winter anytime for sure. I hope that things get better for you and your husband, and wishes for a Happy New Year!

  18. My Amaryllis, which has just one bud, is just barely beginning to open. It's nice to have something fresh and growing in the house at this time of year.
Family members have posted photos of the ice coating branches and plants. It's beautiful, but deadly.
I hope your husband's back pain eases soon. It's no fun to be hurting.

  19. I'm so sorry that your sweet husband is still in so much pain! That's the worst :( I hope it heals (backs heal so slowly), and that he's able to take it VERY easy to allow that healing.
I had a clump of paperwhites bloom in my back yard under the clothesline last week. It had been so warm! Not anymore -- we are in for a chilly week. Enjoy your bulbs. Those pale pink ones are just gorgeous!

  20. So pretty, I hope yours do just as well. So sorry to hear your hubby is in pain and nothing can be done. I hope he feels better soon. Stay inside and stay warm and safe. You'll be able to get back to your walks soon. Have a beautiful Sunday!

  21. Flowers sure lift my spirits. We're having a lot of rain this weekend, not good weather for getting out. Stay warm and I hope your hubby gets better.

  22. Beautiful x 3. I never thought about buying bulbs after Christmas to have these beauties in the house. Smart move on your part. Making myself a note to do this next year. The Paper Whites have a nice aroma if I remember correctly.

  23. I can understand about not wanting to walk in the winter weather. It seems like grocery shopping is my once a week out and about.

Blessings to you and your husband.
