This and That

Ever so slowly I'm putting Christmas things away. Today I put the place mats away and at supper we'll light the Advent wreath one last time before that also gets put into the Christmas "closet" ( an area under the stairs).   I made that wreath probably 30 or more years ago and it's held up quite well.  Every time I take it out I need to hot glue a few things onto it.
Did you notice my fake frosted little pine?  I've been having so much fun buying greatly marked down items on the after Christmas sales. I'll be sharing more in my next post.

While at the thrift store we saw this hotdog maker, perfectly new; no doubt someone received it as a gift and had no use for it. Try to imagine it without the wieners and buns in it. That's how we saw it and could NOT figure out what it was for. I was telling Sheila about this weird appliance we'd seen and I remembered it was made by Nostalgia. She had her phone out to look it up and almost instantly found it. I'm glad we now know because I really was curious.  ( I also saw a Milkshake appliance at the thrift store,  also made by Nostalgia, in that same gorgeous colour of red. Another gift someone obviously had no use for!)

We're still expecting that snowstorm that is coming and will quite likely dump a lot of snow on what we already have. Luckily we can stay home safe and warm.
Thanks for coming by,  Granny M

  1. The little pine is beautiful! I loved it on first view! And the Advent wreath is also beautiful! It tells stories of good and blessed family -life!

  2. I didn't even know something like a hotdog maker existed. It's kind of cool, but I probably would end up donating it too if I received one. The amount of space it would take up compared to the amount of use it would get wouldn't be worth it in my tiny kitchen.

    Love the little frosted pine!

    Blessings~

  4. Ive just finished putting all the decorations away. Everywhere looks so bare. Never mind... eleven short months and they will be up again!! Yay!
A hot dog maker?? Who knew? I think it would be easier to clean a skillet..lol
    Stay warm

  5. I like your little pine tree. I browsed the Christmas aisles at Walmart last week when I grocery shopped but didn't see anything we needed. It was disappointing. I'm sure glad I bought my Christmas cards for next year before Christmas this year. No sale but at least I have them.
I've seen those hot dog toasters before and thought they were rather worthless. What do you think?
Most of our snow has melted but it's bitterly cold out this morning. -1F air temp but -36F wind chill. Taking Zoey out to go potty is an adventure. :-)
I hope you don't get too much snow and stay warm my friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. I remember those silly hotdog machines being advertised at some point. I remember thinking what a waste of counter space at the time, but love the red. Your wreath really has maintained very well with those 30 years of use. Happy New Year to you and yours.

  7. I love that hotdog maker! That could be great for someone who loves hotdogs. I love them but I hear they are bad for you. Well, so is everything yummy, it seems! I like your idea of getting the marked-down Christmas items. That's truly the best time to get them! Thrift shopping is so fun!

  8. Your wreath is still looking very pretty and the table looks so cozy, especially in light of the snow you are expecting.
Isn't it wonderful that we can figure out just about anything on our phone these days. I would have been stumped over what that appliance would be used for. After seeing the picture it makes perfect sense. I can see a bachelor putting that to good use :).

  9. We got the last of Christmas put away on Tuesday and yesterday while I was gone my granddaughter came over to help Tom move the desk back into the family from the garage. It gets moved out there to make room for the Christmas tree. Tomorrow at the grocery store I'll buy some fresh flowers to replace the candles on the kitchen table. I'm happy to have things back to normal, even though I loved the bright, pretty clutter of the holidays.
Your Advent wreath if very pretty.

  10. I've never seen a hot dog maker like that. Wouldn't work for us though. We like them broiled and just about burnt.
We are finally just now starting to get some snow. We are so very long over due for some. Hope we get a LOT!!

  13. We put our decorations away over the weekend ...

I don't think I've ever seen a hot dog maker!

    All the best Jan

  14. I bet the snow is slightly annoying! We received a hot dog cooker (a bit different than the one you feature) and we did use it a few times, but it seemed kind of messy and greasy. I do love hotdogs, though! I do hope you stay inside and off the ice, GM!

  15. That's an interesting appliance, reminds me very much of one we used to have many years ago but ours had probes to attach the hot dogs to and they got "electrocuted". I don't remember anyone eating the finished product but we had lots of fun making them.

  17. Your Advent wreath is beautiful. I have never had one but I was thinking about it this year. I thought I'd buy one for next year but you've inspired me to make one of my own. We got more snow today too. I'm blessed with such good neighbors one of them came over with his tractor and plow and cleared my driveway. When he was through with mine he did two more neighbors. I live in such a great neighborhood we all watch out for one another.
    Stay warm and cozy :)

  19. One would have to eat a LOT of hot dogs to warrant having that particular appliance - or a huge kitchen with lots of storage. Your wreath is lovely. There was a lot of snow that fell and it was very heavy! It's melting like crazy here now.
