Life may have been exciting for Gladys Taber ( so many of us enjoy her books) but although I have many windows nothing is exciting here. It's amazing how quickly our weather changed from very hot to much cooler. We went down to single digit temperatures last night. Celsius, of course.
I've continued with tidying drawers and cupboards. I baked bread yesterday. Made lovely Butternut Squash soup. I'm sure glad DH peeled and chopped that squash. It sure was hard.
The kittens are growing. Neighbours who live across the street recently lost one of their cats and came to look at the kittens this morning. They said they'd like one. That means homes for 2 now. Three to go unless we keep one.
I wonder if anything exciting is happening around your homes. Let me know in the comments.
Meanwhile I'm going to sit on the porch and enjoy this Autumn day. GM
Nothing like the odor of fresh baked bread from the oven!! I'm jealous.
ReplyDeleteIt's comforting to know the kittens are being promised a good home soon!!!
In my paralyzed life, looking out the window IS quite exciting!
ReplyDeleteI love that window pic you posted, Granny. Some days things are more exciting outside my window than inside! One exciting day lately was when we found out we need a new furnace! Oh Joy! So we're on the list for one now....who knows how long it will take to come in? Everything everywhere seems to be backordered. Just hope our current one can limp along until the new one gets installed. Lord have mercy.
ReplyDeleteIt is quiet here too, We have a feral cat a Siamese who we see from time to time...hunting! Cool and rainy here today, I read a book and it was really good so I read the whole thing! The Mountain Between Us. Good that you are getting homes for some of the kittens:)
ReplyDeleteFresh bread and butternut squash soup sound like a perfect autumn meal. We had a family birthday party this evening that was lots of fun.
ReplyDeleteFresh bread...love the smell and the taste. Fresh bread is a down fall for me. I cleaned out a couple of drawers just the other day. Even if I don't get the big stuff done at lease I can feel good about a drawer...lol
ReplyDeleteI would agree about the windows....I wonder how much time I spend a day just looking out of mine...
ReplyDeleteYum, the wonderful aroma of fresh bread though I must say I've never acquired a taste for soup that contains squash.

I love to explore abandoned sites or rustic materials to photograph. Gladys seems to love peep through a window lol
ReplyDeleteMmmm freshly baked bread!!!
ReplyDeleteLooking out the window here I see deer roaming around out back and chipmunks running in out of the cracks in the stone wall.
Yes, I must have windows! We do not have any in our two bathrooms but that's okay as long as I have windows every where else! Lordy, gotta have light coming in. I bet that bread tasted yummy. I keep saying that I am going to bake some fresh bread as I love the smell of it baking. Maybe soon. Happy Fall to you dear lady. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteWe had a fine crop of butternut squash this season as the dreaded squash bugs didn't arrive until most of the squash had matured and been harvested. I've made soup twice--I like to have it in the fridge for a quick healthy snack, though husband prefers the squash steamed or baked and served mashed with butter and a splash of maple syrup. Very much end of the garden time and my back not quite equal to all the tidying and fall transplanting I would like to do.
ReplyDeleteLife is still crazy busy here which is why I haven't been online much. Every week I hope it calms down a little bit. It's supposed to be 98F here today and only 68F tomorrow! One day=one leap into fall.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
I stare out the window all the time. I walk from my office when on the computer to the kitchen to refill my coffee cup and look out the front window...not sure why, it doesn't look any different than when I looked the last time; lol...but I do it. Same in kitchen to look out in the back yard. Not happy about it being the end of summer. I don't dislike fall exactly; but hate what I know comes after it. The end of summer always makes me sad. Fresh baked bread...that sounds yummy save me a piece. Good luck housing the kittens.
ReplyDeleteI bought a butternut squash yesterday too, with the intent of making soup soon. If you cut the squash and roast it first, you can scoop out the flesh and save the effort of peeling it! Plus the roasting adds a nice flavour - Sheila
ReplyDeleteI wasn't with you for a little while and first had to read what's new with you.
ReplyDeleteYour mom cat, the beautiful autumn teddies, your beautiful zinnias... and yes, unfortunately we also had a lot of forest fires here with us due to a particularly dry summer. The rain has finally been here for a long time and the temperatures have dropped to 5 - 8 degrees today... so we are now looking forward to the sun.
All good wishes for you. And, yes, I'll be making pumpkin soup too. Thanks.
hug for you
Thank you for checking inGM. It was the weirdest thing, it had my title all black and gray and it appeared to be a business or stock thing. I deleted it from my bookmarks and was able to get back into my blog, and re added it. For now it seems to be working well. Cooler is nicer. I like warm/hot for my garden, but I've put it to bed now. It's nice and cool at night so nice for sleeping.
ReplyDeleteIt is getting cooler and cooler here. We are now cold because we have been getting used to 30 or 40 degrees this summer, but it is nice to get fresh air and green in the dried garden again!
ReplyDeleteI have nothing real exciting, but that is good. Roger is feeling better. Teasing more. So in its own way, that is exciting.
ReplyDeleteNot much going on here for sure. Usual neighborhood crime, I think they are going to widen the Main Street right outside our little cul-de-sac which will make getting in and our of our street miserable and it is hot. The foxes are doing well, Bam hurt her foot but I think she is recovering and we now have two possum rather than one — they are both just homely as anything but good to keep rats and mice away. I think the foxes are afraid of them. Other than that, a trip to the grocery story and that is about it.
ReplyDeleteExciting? Here? haha :) Well, today I did make a batch of soap that I'd been putting off doing. I watched 3 parts of a Rosamund Pilcher movie on Youtube, and then found out part 4 is not available! The most exciting thing today here is that our cat Leo has been chasing a tiny mouse around the house. I've been unable to catch it. Now THAT'S exciting.
