My Week

It's a very smoky Sunday with air quality very bad due to all the wildfires.  The full moon last night (the Harvest Moon) was deep orange in colour as is the sun today all because of the smoke.

Except for a mishap when I slipped on the stairs and fell it was a good week. I'm so thankful that I didn't break any bones!! The mishap happened because I was wearing slippery socks and hurrying down the varnished wood stairs. And talking on the phone at the same time. Yes, very foolish of me.

I 'm still nibbling away at all the little tasks that have been neglected during the heat of summer. This week I dusted my miniature shoe and purse collection.  I counted and there are 21 shoes, 11 tiny purses, 2 mannequins and 10 pins ( brooches).

Middle and youngest sons did some pickling  in my kitchen. I'm designated keeper of jars, pickling salt,
and other essentials so it's simplest to do it here. The result was 4 jars of pickled beans and one of jalapenos. In spite of reusing jar lids they all sealed.

I'm hoping for cooler weather in the week ahead. Some rain would be very welcome. I would not be surprised to find that we've set a new record for least rain in July and August------- 7mm in August and 5 mm in July. I have no idea how that translates into inches but its a very very small amount.

Thanks for coming by, I hope your day is a good one.

  2. Oh no, I'm also glad you didn't break any bones! No more sloppy socks on stairs :)
Love your collection of brooches - you seldom see people wearing them any more yet they are so pretty.

  3. I have a collection of pottery baby shoes, just an extension of my McCoy and Shawnee pottery.
We are beginning to think about putting away some yard furniture and decorations. But first we need to get to the Whidbey garden and tear into it. It's a desiccated mess.

  5. What a funny shoe-collection! :)))

But first: What a good luck, that you did not have a bad accident by falling downstairs! Your guardian-angel made a very good work!! Sometime it happens, that we hurry - - -

And then: O the forest is burning!! We had a similar problem in August in the north- and the west parts of Germany. The climate is changing - - Our globe need the trees!!!!!

Congratulation for good sons!! We say: "The apple does not fall far away from the tree" !! :))

Many greetings and have a good week!

  9. I'm so sorry to hear about your fall but glad no bones were broken. This is one reason we would like to have a home with no stairs. Maybe someday. Your tiny purses, shoes and brooches are so pretty. I have a lot of pins and brooches but rarely wear them. They are gifts or belonged to my Mom.
Take care and no more slipping.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  11. Oh those smoky days and breathing that is so not good. Take care. Falls also are no fun. My hip was giving me lots of issues causing falls till a steroid shot last week. No pain and no falls either. Wishing you the best with no falls.

  16. I love that little saying at the end. By mid-September, the weather has begun to break, and there really is a feeling of autumn cheer! I'm so sorry about the smoke and wildfires. I hope you get rain soon and the fires die out. I've also re-used canning lids before (for home items) and have found that they seal fine. Always a gamble, but I do try! And NO MORE falling down stairs!!!
