Windy this morning but the forecast rain hasn't arrived. Yet. We had a shorter walk this morning because Dear Husband was going out for breakfast with Youngest Son. It's DH's 82nd birthday. Hard to believe we're getting that old. Although with me using a cane these days as my foot continues to cause problems I feel my age. Gretchen Joanna noticed that in the last picture in my last post I was sitting under a sign that read PATIENCE. I hadn't noticed ( the picture was taken at Kate's place) but no one who knows me would doubt that patience is something I don't have a lot of.
DIL is making Christmas cookies and sent over some cute samples. (Do you recognize the Abominable Snowman from Rudolf?)
Several years ago Youngest Son took over the job of forming the centers for Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls. Now they all need dipping in chocolate. That's the next on the to-do- list. These no-bake cookies are a big favourite around here and there are multiple recipes on-line for them, all very similar.
I mentioned to someone ( I can't remember who) that I'd post a picture of my rows of lit-up houses in the sunroom. They stay up all year around. ( My old camera collection takes up some of the lowest shelf).
Are you busy making cookies these days? Have your tree up & decorated?
Whatever you're busy doing thanks for taking the time to visit.
We are not old, we have accumulated experience and a lot of patience! Your illuminated houses are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty cookies! That decorating cookies is a real art...and yes I saw the abominable snowman! I watched Rudolph earlier this week:)
ReplyDeleteSuch cute cookies, so intricately decorated! I had to chuckle at the "patience" comment, not something we were gifted with!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your husband.
ReplyDeleteLove those cookies!! I plan on baking some shaped sugar cookies this week but I'm sure they won't turn out as nice as those!!
Wonderful this PATIENCE! I believe really, that you have a lot of it **********
ReplyDeleteIncredible, how fast time goes on and suddenly the 80 are here and we are young but old, old but young..
I always bake apple cake since September until the apples of our apple tree are gone.
Oh, wow! I do recognize him!
ReplyDeleteYes, today we made Apricot Fold overs, a little very fussy apricot filled Danish style pastry cookie. Glad it's done. Tom helps. Then we started on gift wrapping.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas treats are those chocolate covered peanut butter balls. They are so good and I look forward to them each and every Christmas.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas dear friend 🎄🎄♥️🎄🎄
My daughter Kate made some peanut butter balls this week, but hers were called Buckeyes and they were open on the top, where she put a little decorative candy, sort of like this:

This was one of the cookies my daughters and I were discussing online the other day. Some remembered them as Jingle Balls, which were completely covered in chocolate. I was sent a picture of some of my grandchildren making them today. They covered them all over in chocolate and then put Christmasy sprinkles on them. The ones my neighbor used to give us were just dark brown all over. They are all good!

I passed on my collection of village houses to Mandy when we moved from our big house in Spokane. Your's are beautiful! I confess that I'm not the most patient person. Your DIL is an incredible cookie decorator. I did recognize Mr. Abomidable. I always have liked him. :-) Happy, happy birthday to your dear husband. That's not old as you're both still super spry. I hope he had a great day.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog today. I always look forward to your comments.
Blessings and love,
Betsy
I hadn't realised that there was such a tradition of iced biscuit and cookie baking at Christmas! Such fun and so pretty
ReplyDeleteNo patience here either...lol
ReplyDeleteOur tree is up and I'm unwrapping my Nativity Scene now...Love your little houses!
hugs
Donna
Happy 82nd birthday to your DH! 🎉 How sweet that your family is making holiday treats together. Wishing you all a cozy, joyful season! You’re invited to read my blog posts too, I’d love to share with you!
ReplyDeleteI love your houses. Those cookies are amazing...too pretty to eat. I would never have guessed you were impatient. I am, too.
ReplyDeleteI am in awe of those cookies. Perfection.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really like that your son is involved in making one of the treats. That is just cool.
I am so sorry about your poor foot. My sister has had issues with hers for over a year, and it certainly can hamper your life, much more than a wonky knee.
Wonderful cookies so much work. I love your houses so nice you enjoy they year around.
ReplyDeletemy daughters mother in law makes those peanut butter cookies every year.
Cathy
The cookies are so pretty! And how great to have your son roll the peanut butter filling.
ReplyDeleteThe wind was quite strong here for much of Friday night and all of Saturday. Then today was bright and sunny.
Happy Birthday to your DH.
I just love all your lighted houses. I used to have quite a few and gave them away finally. But so love to see other people's light up villages. I'm probably pretty ready for Christmas, but have to have surgery on my eye this week, so I'm thinking the rest of the month may just be a blur. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteBelated birthday greetings to your husband.
ReplyDeleteI can certainly understand losing patience with your foot problem by now. I do hope it will not be much longer until it is feeling all better.
Your DIL's cookies are so cute. No cookies have been baked here yet. I'm hoping to get at least one baked before my kids arrive.
We call those peanut butter balls "buckeyes" and they are a favorite around here as well. The decorations are done, wrapping is done and baking will commence this week. Hope you foot feels better soon!
ReplyDeleteI love the abominable snowman ⛄️
ReplyDeleteI love those cookies! I'm no decorator, but this makes me want to try. I love the abominable snowman and that bear with the santa hat is so cute! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThose cookies look very nice and good !
ReplyDeleteI love your little houses.
