This and That

When I tried starting my computer today it wouldn't do anything except inform me "Your computer will not start". As if I didn't realize. Called my DD and with her encouragement I pressed a few keys and was "told" it was now repairing itself. It worked fine yesterday so how could anything go wrong overnight!!  Anyway, now it's working fine again.

Here's my morning visitor, grandson M. He visits most mornings before school.
He's hiding his face or I wouldn't be able to post the pic of him.

One of my bigger Teddy bears wearing her new thrift store dress ( .50)

When I woke up this morning it was cloudy and looked like rain so I decided today was the day to wash the living room windows and lace curtains.
I have a mix of real and artificial plants in front of the windows to block the view from cars as they drive by. I used to have  full-length sheer curtains but I changed to these little "toppers". It's nice to have that job done for another year.

More Lilacs, these are from my very tall lilac 'tree'. My son climbed on the playhouse roof and used a long cutter to reach them. I know I could cut the tree down and hope it would regrow but I'm afraid I'd kill it. By now it has a trunk like a man's leg and no low branches at all.

I finished my day's work by mixing up a batch of cheese biscuits and one of pear muffins.

I hope I haven't bored you with my rather mixed-up post but that's the way life is some days. A bit of everything.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a lovely evening.

Birds and a Reply

Saw this gorgeous male Bullock's Oriole om my morning walk. Isn't he lovely?  He didn't stay long enough for a picture but these pics from the internet show him in all his Spring finery!

This goose family was quite obliging when I was taking their picture although papa goose kept his eye on me and I think he was warning me not to get too close.

Recently Bonnie left a comment  asking about my scones and if they were hard to make. She also asked if I'd share my recipe. I would if I actually had one but I always use my biscuit recipe and add other ingredients according to my whims so I would recommend going on-line and looking for recipes because they're all more or less the same and some even have a little video.  Just add whatever fruit you want and you shouldn't have any trouble at all.

Some of you leave a reply to almost all your comments and I think that's a great idea. However I would find that would take more time than I want to spend at my computer. It's not that I don't read and appreciate each and every comment, because I do look forward to them.

It's a sunshiny Sunday here. I hope you're enjoying your day whatever the weather.

More Plants!!!

At the end of last Summer I vowed to have less plants in pots this year.  Seems I didn't take that vow very seriously because I have more plants in pots than ever.  Here are the ones that I couldn't resist this morning.

I have never tried to grow a Hart's Tongue fern. I hope I won't kill it. I really like its different fronds.

There was no regular Lavender to be found so I settled for French Lavender which has                         those  very different flowers and  doesn't really look like Lavender to me.
            . Smells like it though.

This fern apparently grows quite large so I will transplant it into a large pot to give it lots of room to grow.

This Christmas fern can be ( and will be) grown as a houseplant.
I have the perfect fern stand made by my BIL.

I'm trying to make this covered area behind the house look pretty with various potted plants.

After transplanting most of them I came in and had a cup of tea and a sit-down.  Apart from warming up leftovers for supper I'm about done for today.
Thanks for visiting . I hope you had a good day too.

Pretty Dishes and a Planter

                                           Happy first day of May!

A new month seemed to call for some rearranging of tea sets on the sideboard.
This is what was on it for the past 2 months.

These are the dishes I took out to celebrate Spring.

I also changed what I had on Mom's old Singer sewing machine.  I must admit snitching the Lilacs from the big old Lilac in the park. My Lilac bush is very old and very very tall. All the flowers are way up beyond even a man on a stepladder.

These Tulips came from my backyard ( in case you wondered).

And lastly I wanted to show the planter my DH made  for our oldest daughter. He made it using free pallets that he pulled apart.

Now I plan on going outside and puttering  in the garden. The sun hasn't come out from behind the clouds as yet but at least it's not raining.

Thanks for visiting,

This and That

I found this wintery tray at the thrift store and thought I'd put different paper on the bottom and use it to take my tea and a snack out on the porch swing.

Also at the ts I found this tea cozy. Now my old one goes into the give-away box. It's nice to change things a wee bit, don't you think?

DH went out and brought in enough rhubarb from our little plant so I could make a rhubarb coffee cake. I didn't actually have a recipe so I used one for a peach CC. It turned out fine.

And since I don't like to use the oven for just one thing I also mixed up a batch of scones to put in the freezer for tea breaks this coming week.

It's a chilly showery day and just right for curling up with tea and my library book.

Thanks for visiting,

My Morning Walk

Another day of glorious sunshine. I walked before it got too warm and in any case I prefer walking  after breakfast but before I start the main chores I intend to do that day. The first 2 pics I took in the front yard as I was leaving.

My Cowslips came through the winter and some of the other Primroses as well.

This tree is in a front yard I walk past.

These Tulips are right at the gate to the park itself with what I think is Candytuft planted in front.

And here's my destination. There was a canoe on the water but too far away to show up. I'm sure it must have been peaceful out on the lake.

Thanks for visiting today. I hope your day is as peaceful and relaxing as possible.

Earth Day

It's earth day and I thought I'd post an appropriate poem, one I very much like. It's by Helena Coleman, a Canadian poet born I believe in 1860 or thereabouts.
Coleman has written another poem along the same lines if you're interested in looking it up it's called Earth Moved in Space.

More Lovely Grows The Earth

More lovely grows the earth as we grow old,
More tenderness is in the dawning spring,
More bronze upon the blackbird's burnished wing;
And richer is the autumn cloth-of-gold;
A deeper meaning, too, the years unfold,
Until to waiting hearts each living thing
For very love its bounty seems to bring,
Intreating us with beauty to behold.

Or is it that with years we grow more wise
And reverent to the mystery profound–
Withheld from careless or indifferent eyes–
That broods in simple things the world around,
More conscious of the Love that glorifies
The common ways and makes them holy ground?

We had a lovely day, sunny and warm. We went for a long walk then I spent some time just sitting on my enclosed porch. The grands came up to keep me company and took turns taking pictures of me.
Here's me with my mug of tea.

I hope you had a lovely day too.

Thanks for coming by,
