More Autumn Leaves
Went to the library last evening to pick up some books I had requested... all in the Autumn theme.
The novel, Mary Ann in Autumn, I chose strictly on the basis of the title. It sounds like it might be a lovely book Well, it isn't! Usually I give a book a chance and read at least 30 pages before rejecting it but I very quickly found out that a) I didn't like the main character ( Mary Ann) and b) I objected to both the content and the language.
The other two books are delightful.
The one titled Autumn Leaves is a children's book obviously about leaves but all the leaves are actual size. And the book is full of little tidbits of info that my grandson willingly listened to me read to him this morning before he left for school. He thought the leaf in the upper left hand corner looked like a ghost and asked if we could try drawing it when he gets home.
Do you spy the "ghost"? He even has eyes.
Another page from the same book.
The leaves I picked up yesterday and pressed ( in the phone book ) were ready to be Modge Podged.
I brought home many more leaves this morning and am drying and pressing them now. We had a heavy dew so they were quite wet.
The last of my trio of books A Trail Through Leaves is such a great book. Hannah Hinchman is a Wyoming artist-writer-naturalist whose book I have taken out of the library so many times ( usually in Fall). I love how she describes her walks ( hikes more like it) and her sketches are fantastic. If I ever find a used copy of this book you know I'll get it.
Thank you for responding to my little moan about not knowing what to blog about. Guess it just happens once in a while.
I hope you are having a great day. Granny Marigold

I will have to keep an eye out for A Trail Through Leaves. It looks like a nice book.
ReplyDeleteHave a great evening!
Aw, so leafy! I love the way you are preserving your leaves!
ReplyDeleteYou're smart to reject a book that isn't good.
Oh I do see the ghost! I love picking up pretty leaves but have never thought of using Mod Podge...I just happen to have a bottle too. Book covers can be deceiving, can't they? It sounds like it would be good.
