Roses

We have 2 very big, old roses in the back that I believe are ground cover roses. My DIL was pruning branches that were mostly finished blooming while I gathered the large bunches and stuffed them into a bin.  Each branch seemed to have a few blooms still looking pretty and I couldn't bear to leave them so I kept snipping the better ones and laying them aside. The stems were mostly too short for a vase but fit well into a gravy boat.

This branch was deemed worthy of its own 'vase'.

Now this pretty rose is not mine. We pass by it on our walk to the park/lake every day. Isn't it gorgeous?

After overnight showers the sun came out around noon today. It's just lovely out, 20 C (68F).
I'm hoping the rain stays away for the week but it maybe too much to hope for. Oh well, I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Thanks for visiting, G.M.

  1. What a beautiful rose you have1 I like the glorious view into your rooms1 You really have a blesses home and it is full of love for humans and flowers.

The second rose you show you us is really stunning! Like fire of love - -

many greetings from the Bavarian forest. This summer here is not so dry as the last two summers 2028 and 2019. A third dry summer would be the end for our sensitive forest - So we enjoy the rain, but we love the sun!

    Have a wonderful new week!

  2. We are having much the same weather, although the rain was very light. I just came in from sitting on the patio, enjoying the fresh air, with a light breeze blowing, and seeing my shrub roses cascading in pink froth.

  3. Your roses are so lovely. That's my favorite flower. Sometimes you can luck out and catch a beautiful fragrance besides the beauty of the Rose. I hope yours smell good as well as look beautiful! Most of the florist roses don't seem to have the smell anymore.

  5. I always have trouble throwing away blooms that are still perfect and have to rescue them for a vase or two :)

    1. Unfortunately I have no talent for painting. Those pictures are from The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady.

  8. Beautiful roses! My father-in-law grew beautiful roses. But I'm not a rose gardener. So after we took over the property, it did not take many years before I had killed them all.

  15. Beautiful roses. I hate throwing away the not quite dead roses when I prune, too. The gravy boat is a great idea for short stems.
