Welcome Autumn

September first is the first day of meteorological Autumn. DH and I have had a friendly argument going for years about the beginning of each season and now I learn that all along I was going by the meteorological version and he was all for the astronomical one.   I copied this little bit of info from the internet ( in case you're interested).

You may have noticed that meteorologists and climatologists define seasons differently from “regular” or astronomical spring, summer, fall, and winter. So, why do meteorological and astronomical seasons begin and end on different dates? In short, it’s because the astronomical seasons are based on the position of Earth in relation to the sun, whereas the meteorological seasons are based on the annual temperature cycle.

 Meteorological Seasons

Summer runs from June 1 to August 31; fall (autumn) runs from September 1 to November 30; and. winter runs from December 1 to February 28 (February 29 in a leap year)

There now. I've managed to bore you with my trivia and I'll go on to bore you with tea cups. Here are a couple of the saucerless ones I collect, ones with Autumn tones.

This one has sort of Autumn colours.  Both this tea cup and the next one are Queen Anne china.

I got out my Gather sign , the same one I used last year, and hung it on the front door. It was a gift from GD Kate.  I'm always the first one on our street to put out anything seasonal. I have another sign for the back door which I just remembered. I'll go find it and hang it today.

Thanks for coming by,

Granny Marigold

  1. I'm decorating for fall now too. I count the beginning of fall as September 1st, even though our North Texas temperatures won't begin to cool off until October. I can sit inside in the air conditioning and pretend!

  2. I've always gone along with your husbands view of the time of the seasons. Still seems too much like summer to be into fall already. :)
The cup and saucer with the autumn leaves is my favorite.

  3. Mystical huts in the new header! Atumn is greeting us now. Yes, I also heard, that there are two definitions about the seasons, both have their charme. I think you know, that on September, 20th day and night are equal, and after nights grow fast - -

The nature makes us always again surprizing - -

  7. OK from now on I will us the meteorological dates. So much simpler. I like to think that tomorrow fall will begin even though our temp will be near 100 degrees f. And, you’ll never bore me with those beautiful little cups. Happy Autumn!

  8. I'm ready for fall but NOT ready for winter in Nebraska. September 1 is our anniversary and I always feel that it means fall is here although the day we got married it was blazing HOT here in Omaha!
Love your teacups. No boredom at all. My favorite is the autumn leaves with the saucer. I think I'll need to start getting out my fall decorations tomorrow morning before we go pick up my anniversary present.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy
