Saturday's work Day

I thought I'd post some pictures of my sons working hard in the hot afternoon on Saturday.
This row of Hostas and Astilbes was so overgrown so the first thing to do was to dig out all the Hostas.

I didn't get a picture of the Astilbes being divided and replanted. Right now they look a little worse for wear but hopefully they'll fill out nicely. I want to spread bark mulch around them and up to the sidewalk. I hope we got our row straight!!

They also cleaned the gutters  and washed the skylights while they were on the roof.
It's a good feeling knowing these chores ( which are getting to be beyond our capacity to do)
are done and for a good long while. Hopefully.

Thanks for coming by and reading about my ever-so-ordinary doings.

    1. I know how fortunate I am. They would probably help me anyway but sharing my baked goodies with them serves as a reward.

  2. I wish my sons doing this kind of work might be called "ordinary"! It seems too wonderful. My sons would do it if they lived close enough, I say in their defense. And my grandsons just did quite a bit for me when they were here over the weekend. :-)

What a blessing to have so many hostas that they are overflowing their bed! And good that you have a place to put the overflow.

    1. I am so fortunate to have helpful children and that they all live here in our small city.

  3. You are blessed to have your sons close by and also that they have willing hearts to help their parents. I know that having both of those jobs done is a relief for you and your husband. I have to ask...did your sons like their reward you made them?

  4. Sometimes the ordinary things are the most interesting, I think it's because we can all relate to them. It's great that they come and help get the chores done.

  5. It's nice to have willing help nearby. Seems like the wrong time of the year to divide and move hostas and astilbe. Obviously they'll need to be kept well watered.

    1. Oh yes, I know it's the wrong time to transplant but my family would assure you that if I get an idea to do something I'm not inclined to put it off.

  6. Like Mary said its the simple things in life that are interesting. You are certainly blessed with your family living so close by. I must admit that is the one thing that we do miss...family. We have our daughter and her family visiting soon, so we have ordered our winter logs when they are here so they can help stack it away.

  8. It's good to have strong young men to come help with those heavy chores! Your astilbes look very nice now. I thought those hostas and astilbes were stunning before, but you're right that they were seriously encroaching on your walkway! It's good they can be divided and moved without doing harm. You have such a green thumb!
