Apple Picking

Woke up this morning to a cold North wind; temperature 10C ( 50F) but I'm sure there was a wind chill factor!  We went apple picking... now it really feels like Fall.
We had our choice of the many varieties so we chose to pick the kinds that are more costly  in the store... Honycrisp and Ambrosia.

With that cold wind I was glad I'd brought my ear muff.

For my teacup today I looked for one with Autumn tones and chose this one made by Royal Vale.

Here's yesterday's choice.... Lady Alexandra Rose made by Bell China.

Thanks for stopping by!

I love to read your comments!

  1. Both teacups are very pretty but I really take to the one with the autumn tones. I have never been apple picking. I buy a bushel every year to make apple sauce and then freeze slices for winter pies. Apples are so expensive in the stores. Love your pictures. Apple picking looks like fun! Thanks for sharing.

  2. Your teacups are pretty, it makes me feel special to drink from such pretty cups. The doily with your Autumn cup matches perfectly.

  3. Does either of those apple varieties store well? Do you have a good place to serve as a "root cellar" in the winter?

    1. No root cellar or cold room for us I'm afraid. We filled the dehydrator and had it going all afternoon. We'll also slice and freeze some for winter desserts.

  5. Apples are so much a part of fall here. We'll be having our family cider bee in a couple of weeks.

    1. Walmart has Gala apples for .79 lb this week and I'll buy some of those. The Honeycrisp are expensive in the store but pick-you-own were $1.10 a lb.

  7. I love apples, especially this time of year when they are so crisp and juicy. Isn't that old farm wagon pretty all decked out with pumpkins. Love your pretty tea cups and the fact that you use them instead of just letting them set on the shelf, like I do. They are so lovely and should be used and loved . . . I'll have to change my ways a bit :)
Reply to the comment you left on my blog: I do believe that most animals have a very good built in knowledge of what they can and cannot eat, but I'll be putting those pepper plants in the compost and not the garden waste for the goats . . . just in case :) As for me . . . I'm just as fat and sassy as ever . . . if anything it probably made me stronger . . . that is after coughing and choking from the dust for a good period of time :) I'll never do it again without a dust mask on. Better yet, I'll let Steve do it, LOL
    Have a marvelous day,
    and stay warm.

  10. Ooo - I'll enjoy seeing your teacup choices each day :) Your jacket/shirt is very pretty and oh-so autumnal! I'm a bit jealous of your chilly temps and apple picking. Now show us what yummy baked goods you'll make with them!!

    1. For now I'm just slicing them and getting them into the freezer. The baking I'm going to do will be Pumpkin pies for out Thanksgiving ( which is this coming weekend).

  11. I bet those apples taste even better for being hand picked by yourselves. Getting a bit chilly here too, but welcome after the hot summer xx

  12. Fun! I love apple picking and I miss living in Spokane, WA. We'd go to Green Bluff and pick lots.

  13. Can't wait to see all the mouth-watering goodies you'll make with those apples! I love that you actually use your beautiful tea cups. What a choice you have! Keep warm! We had some heavy, wet snow overnight, but things are dripping and drizzly now.

  14. Oh Granny Marigold, I would love to go apple picking. I've been buying eastern apples in Walmart for .78 cents a pound. I don't know the name of them but they remind me of a Honeycrisp. I'm sure they won't last long. Those are beautiful trees you are picking from.
