Morning Walk and Soup

12 degrees this morning. There's a haze and the sun can barely be seen through it but all in all not a bad day. Very comfortable for walking. The lake and trees around it are starting to look like Fall.

There were 4 older gentlemen that had set up their mikes and speakers. They were playing and singing lovely old favourite hymns. It was wonderful to sit a while and listen. The man on the left was playing the spoons which I found so interesting.  As you can see they were a jolly bunch.

DH went to his volunteer 'job' as he does twice a week. He came home and told me that Gleaners had been given 5000 lbs of tomatoes and 8000 pounds of parsnips. The tomatoes came from Mexico but the parsnips were grown locally. The latter were very large so that's probably why they were not able to sell them in the grocery store. As I've mentioned before all the produce that is donated is chopped, dried and made into soup mix which is sent overseas to needy countries.

Supper for us today will be soup and fresh bread which must by now risen and ready to pop into the oven.

Take care,  GM

  2. What a nice thing to stumble upon the little musical group. I don't think I've ever seen anyone playing the spoons. That would be interesting to watch. Wow, that is a lot of tomatoes and parsnips. How nice to know that they will be put to good use. Your husband is doing good work. Your supper sounds just right for this time of year.

  5. Those "older gentlemen" don't look very old to me, you can see how old I am by this observation. I would like to hear hymns outdoors in that natural setting. The Gleaners sound like a good group.

  6. When I read 12 degrees I was thinking farenheit and thought, "Oh my goodness that's so cold for so early." And then I realized it was probably celcius! HA!
I would have loved to hear the gentlemen singing. There is nothing better than the old hymns in my humble opinion.
The Gleaners sound like an interesting group. Thats a LOT of work cutting up and drying all of those veggies. May God bless those volunteers.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  9. That looks like a wonderful place to walk...think I have said that before. Nice to hear music live...it has been forever since I actually saw any music performed.

I think my brother and his wife volunteer at some place that donates food to overseas.

  13. Fall colors are beautiful! How nice with the men entertaining with music and song! I love when people do that kind of unexpected things that brighten the day for others. It is good that the tomatoes and parsnips can be made into useful and healthy food for people who need it.

  16. I am trying to imagine what sort of old hymn one could play the spoons with... something pretty upbeat, I guess, like "I'll Fly Away," or "Are You Washed in the Blood."

It would be lovely to come upon a group giving praise to God!
