What's happening today

The front yard needed a lot of work done and DH,  middle and youngest sons worked hard getting it done. DH removed the picket fence, sanded and revarnished it. Youngest son took a pick-axe to dig out the Hydrangeas that broke my heart every June when we'd get a downpour and they would be flattened to the ground. After trying everything I could think of to keep them upright I decided they had to go.

It's all done, raked and ready for Roses which will hopefully be planted there next Spring.  The fence will go back up next week.

Here's what I was doing...

This year I'm planting my tulip bulbs in pots. Below is my little potting area behind my potting shed.

Whatever your day held I hope it made you happy.

Thanks for coming by,  GM

  2. How wonderful that they have the garden all ready for you for next spring and I like your pots of tulips too! We're out camping this weekend in the little trailer and it's gorgeous out. It will be cld toight, 40 is forecast and it will most likely be the last really nice and warm weekend of the year so we're enjoying it to it's fullest. We took several very long walks and a drive along Priest River in North Idaho.
I hope your Sunday is wonderful.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  4. It is good to have done such a hard work! I planted some daffodils in my flower bed yesterday. I will buy some tulips to plant too. Last year there was very few tulips, and I think they need to be renewed. I let them stay in the soil after blooming.

  5. Hi GM- Yes, it is good to have some help on a large Project. Your Tulips should look very nice...Each year here there is a 'Tulip Festival' at a town named 'Bowral' ( in the Southern Highlands)- beautiful displays. Best Wishes. KEV.

  6. How lucky you are to have such willing and capable help to do such a big job. It will be nice to be able to start from scratch next spring but I do sympathize with you on the loss of the beautiful hydrangeas!

  7. Hi sweet GM! I am filling a planter box with daffodils. I was worried that this particular box won't get rain, but my mom suggested dumping some snow on it over the course of the winter. Brilliant!
I'm sorry you had to get rid of your hydrangeas. It sounds like the right thing to do, though!
    Have a great Sunday!

  8. I feel your pain with the hydrangeas....I need to get rid of my wisteria vine because it is looking bad. But breaks my heart to do.

Ok, this is probably a stupid question...but going to ask anyway...what will you do with the potted tulip bulbs..do they go in your house, basement, stay outside, or what? Curious minds want to know. Probably should have read comments. I will do that after I post this...to see if it is already answered.

  10. As my grandfather used to say, "That was a good stroke of work that got done!" So sorry about your hydrangeas but the roses will be lovely too. Have a great week!

  11. Isn't it great to have strong helpful menfolk to help around the house! That was quite a job, but I am sure you won't miss the heartache of having the hydrangeas flop all the time.
I have almost been gardening today - visiting the garden centre instead of working in the garden itself! Your tulips will be great to look forward to next spring :)

  12. What hard work GM but it's going to be worth it. It will be so pretty I am sure. I have never planted tulips in a pot before. I need to learn more about how to do that as I loved them so much. I hope you have a great day. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  15. I'll look forward to seeing your spring tulips!

What a satisfying work day. I'm hoping to have a couple of those this week and maybe plant a pot with stock, which was my impulse buy at the nursery yesterday where I only meant to buy compost.
