Plants and a Blue Moon

I last watered my Amaryllis in August and this is what they look like now. Another week or so and I'll be able to cut off the last leaves and tuck the dry plants away until the middle of December.

I bought a package of 10 Hyacinths at Walmart. They've begun marking down their bulbs now.

I potted them up in plastic pots and put them with the Tulips I planted a month ago. Tomorrow I'll find something to lay over the pots to keep the annoying squirrels from digging into the soil.

There's a blue moon tonight. I saw it last night as it shone into the bedroom through the skylight. Normally blue moons come only about every 2 or 3 years. In 2018 we had 2 blue moons and they were only 2 months apart. the next time we get 2 blue moons in one year will be 2037.

Tonight's moon is known as the Full Hunter's Moon.  (the picture below is from the internet)

Are you ready to leave October behind ?  I've begun to think Christmas and I've been looking at various blogs that have such interesting recipes not to mention all the gorgeous pictures on Pinterest. I'm quite sure if I tried to replicate any one of the crafts that they deem 'easy' I'd be looking at a disaster. It's fun to look and admire anyway.

Have a good weekend,  G.M.

  1. No, I do not look forward to seeing October go. I am not the least bit interested in Christmas yet. We spent a lot of time today cleaning out beds in the garden. The work will continue into early November, as weather permits. I here we are in for some cold November rain by mid week. Ugh.

  4. It will be looking mighty pretty around your garden come springtime. I have some bulbs waiting to be planted. I'm heading to the nearest window now to check out that blue moon.

  6. I know next spring when you have so many early blooming flowers that I will wish I had planted more. Christmas fever hasn't hit me yet so I will just keep pottering around as though it is far away...which it is not!

  7. I haven't even begun to think of Christmas. I don't know what to get for the kids. Most everything will probably be Amazon delivered since I won't be going shopping.
    Have a great day.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  9. I'm ready leave the entire year behind. Turning thoughts to Thanksgiving now, and preparations. Chance of our first snow today, and next week 65 degrees. I like Hyacinths, they smell so lovely. The moon was beautiful, well it always is, but last night the sky so clear, and it was beautiful. Some things havn't changed. I'm grateful for those.

  11. Last night I saw a slit of the bright Blue Moon coming in under my window blind as I lay in bed. I was too tired to get up and take a full look at it, but it was fun to know it was there. Yes, Christmas is coming, and I want to embrace it and be proactive in enjoying both the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons this year.

  12. I went and checked out whether we had a Blue Moon but we don't. With the time differences, our full moon is in the wee hours of first November instead of late on the last of October. We will have to wait another four weeks! Having said that, we still have a full moon and it is beautiful :)

  16. Oh, me too, on the beautiful crafts we see everyone making before Christmas. I've even given up on making a wreath. I noticed today that Walmart has a big display of Amaryllis. I've never had one.

  19. A skylight in your bedroom! How cool is that! We've had too much cloudiness lately to see anything at night. Ah well. Squirrels sure are notorius little creatures with bulbs, that's for sure lol.
