Easter Baking and a mystery flower

I baked Easter bread ( Paska)  and it was so quickly gone that I didn't get a picture of it once I'd iced it. My Mother always made her Paska in traditional round pans but I don't own any and we're all okay with the free form ones I make. Also Mom iced the top only while I put icing on the flat side of each slice. Cream cheese icing. It's the best.

This is what my mom's looked like. Isn't it pretty?  Oh yes, we don't like sprinkles on ours either.

I'm not sure why I always end up looking serious on photos. Maybe because I'm not fond of having my picture taken.

I tried a new cookie recipe. It has cream cheese and butter in the dough but ended up rather dry.  I probably won't make them again.  The picture below this one was supposed to be first and shows how I made them.

I saw this flower while on my walk and it looked so pretty I'd like to have some in my garden. Does anyone know what it is?

Thanks for coming by. I hope your week is off to a great start. Here the sun is shining and a new project has been begun.

  1. I think I would like the Easter bread best how you make it, although it does look very pretty how your mom made it. I'm no help with the pretty flower. Smile for us next time! :)

  2. The bread looks good no matter how you bake it. I would skip the sprinkles too.
I am not sure about that flower either. At first I thought it was pulmonaria, but the leaves don't look right.

    1. Hopefully I'll go to the plant shop soon and I'll look for pulmonaria. I'll be able to tell if it is or isn't my mystery plant. If it is I must buy one.

  3. Your breads look delicious along with your cookies! I love that pretty blue flower too, but not sure what it is exactly. Hope you had a lovely Easter!

  4. Lungwort or Pulmonaria. It's leaves are shaped like lungs, and are often green with white spots resembling a diseased lung, and lungwort was indeed once used medicinally to treat lung ailments. One of the first flowers to appear in the spring.

  6. The bread looks lovely. Baking something that tasty is serious work! Maybe that's why you look serious! Because it's seriously delicious. What a pretty blue flower, braving the spring air.

  7. I opted out of the Paska this year. But I must say yours does look very good. I wouldn't mind it with the frosting...my husband not so much. I thought the flower was Forget me knot, I'm no expert by any stretch.

  9. The breads all look delicious! No wonder they were quickly eaten. I had no idea what the flower was but I see a knowledgeable person has identified it. I was going to suggest if it is in a public place wait until it goes to seed after it flowers and go back and collect some seeds, thats what I always do :)

    1. I did go take a look at your Pulmonaria and now I'm not convinced that the flower I saw was the same. Mine had no spots on the leaves. I'm assuming there must be spots otherwise why would its common name be lungwort. Hmmm.

  12. Heerlijk tijdverdrijf in de keuken recepten uitproberen.Het paasbrood ziet er feestelijk uit.
Het blauwe bloempje is een lust voor het oog en is volgens mij Pulmonaria mollis.

    Lieve groet,Ger

  13. I purchased 2 Pulmonaria plants last year as well - they are so pretty with the 2 colors of blossoms on it (they change from pink to blue as the blossom ages) so I do hope they survived our prairie winter! It's too early here to tell yet as only some of the perennials are showing signs of greening. Your Paska looks delish - like you, I don't like the sprinkles either...too gritty in the mouth!
