Happy Monday

It's another beautiful summer day and it's going to be another hot one. I've been out doing some watering and will do a bit more later.  Keeping the plants that need watering the most alive. I'm thankful for the ones that cope with the drought and bloom in spite of it.  One such is my Lily that I call my Tiger Lily but I'm fairly sure it is a Turk's Cap Lily.  I have no idea how it came to grow where it is, right in the very front of the garden, but it thrives there and I'm not about to try to move it.

My Mullein also keeps growing and is now over 8 feet tall.  It looks strange but is so unique that I let it grow.

Thanks for the lovely comments on my tea pots in my last post.

Now I'm going outside and do some puttering before it gets too warm. Thanks for coming by,  GM

  1. Hot temps here GM. It has rained some today which makes it so humid. I have never seen any lily like that. So pretty. Looks like an okra! LOL! Hugs and blessings to you. Cindy

  3. Such lovely blossoms. I'm going to put all of my potted plants on the back pation where the neighbor lady said she would water them for me while we're gone. It's SO HOT here that they have to be watered daily.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

Hot hot hot, this summer has plenty of that! No fires close by us, for which we are very thankful. Enjoy your puttering, its the best! Blessings and hugs :)

  6. The weather is so beautiful here too but I feel guilty for not being outside more. The mornings are great until it gets hot. The shade on the patio leaves by early afternoon and soon the shade umbrellas isn't enough shelter wither. I said I wasn't going to watch the Olympics during the daytime, but I am today. But then I'm still catching up.

  10. I love all the flowers you have growing around your yard....your lilies are amazing. Your orange lilies remind me of the tiger lilies my mom used to have growing at the edge of her big vegetable garden. Nice how flowers can bring such sweet memories back to our minds. About the only thing she hadn't grown was roses. So after I got married and moved away, I started growing rose bushes. She loved them so much, that soon she was growing them in her yard too, and reaping loads of compliments! So fun sharing things we love to grow!

  11. Oh, what a wild and wonderful lily patch! I love it, like having wild animals turned into flowers! Fanciful thought but that's how it makes me feel! The mullein is amazing. I think it is making a lot of seeds. Maybe you will have a patch of them next year?

  12. Ahh, summer. It is pouring with rain here with occasional thunder and a bit on the chilly side (I'm sitting by the fire watching Olympics on TV). Enjoy your beautiful garden :) xx

  14. Some of my mullein plants have crooks and turns in the tall spines. I love them all anyway. We had a nice amount of rain a few days ago; sure is nice not to have to water everything for a few days. I hope you get rainfall soon.

  18. Why do you think it is a Turk's Cap? I had never heard of that species until you mentioned it, so I looked it up, and it is native to the Northeast, but of course you are in the Northwest...

I always called them Tiger Lilies, but a few years ago I was corrected about similar ones that are Leopard Lilies. Just now my Seek app told me that yours are Tiger Lilies, and it took it longer than usual to figure that out. But I wouldn't take it as gospel truth!

Anyway, it's VERY pretty and makes me think of planting one myself. I used to have one in my back yard for a few years... it probably rotted because of the soil being too wet and warm in the winter.

    1. I didn't realize that the Turk's Cap Lily wasn't found in this area. I think you're right. It's a Tiger Lily. From what I could see of the Leopard Lily mine looks different. Today I had to cut off the first 2 droopy blooms. The heat is affecting them no doubt.
