It's Monday afternoon, the laundry is done. It's cooler today and more conducive to working. Unfortunately it's a low energy day for me so I'm not going to tackle any other chores today.
Some have wondered if washing my many teacups is a bother and it is time consuming but it also gives me a chance to handle and appreciate the beauty of each one. I cleaned all 80 that were in the dining room and not behind glass. There are roughly 65 of those and I'm going to assume they are not needing washing. One of these days I'll start on the teacups on the porch but not this week.
We have a very old Queen Elizabeth rose growing in the back wild area. She gets Black Spot every year and loses leaves but still she blooms. She grows very tall and DH manages to bend the branches down to cut the pretty pink blooms.
Eldest daughter gave me an old lamp base. It is very heavy and stable so I found a light fixture bowl at the thrift store and we glued it onto the top. For now I've been floating flowers in it.
We brought this water lily home from the lake. Too bad they only bloom one day.
That's my post for today. I hope your week is off to a great start. GM
I know what you mean about enjoying washing all of your tea cups. While it is a lot of work, it truly is a joy to be able to enjoy each one for its beauty. I like what you have done with the lamp base that your daughter gave you. Your flowers look so pretty resting in it.
ReplyDeleteOh my that sure is a lot of tea cups to wash.
ReplyDeleteLove how you have the floating flowers in the old lamp base. Clever idea.
I could almost smell that rose, it is lovely. I like that lamp base to, what a creative idea. I have days to when my battery says-rest. you've done enough, with heat and humidity it happens alot more.
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness that waterlily made my heart skip beat . . . simply beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteMonday is my day to clean the house ! :) So the week can begin.
ReplyDeleteThe new decoration with the sea-rose is beautiful, also the roses. I love roses very much.
We will have big heat next days.
That water lily is so beautful. I used to have a Queen Elizabeth rose bush too! So fun to hear about your having one also.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of teacups to wash. I would not want to have to do that. I can't stand for long periods at the kitchen counter before my back begins spasming, so I would have to do it in batches. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful rose. Even an old bush, she's still putting out gorgeous flowers. Using the lamp base and light fixture is a brilliant idea. So beautiful.
I hope you had a great Monday and that the week ahead is bright.
Blessings,
Betsy
After days of relentless heat, today we have rain! The garden is thrilled.
ReplyDeleteLove what you did with the lamp fixture!! And old English roses...a favorite of mine...love their spicy fragrance that can be compared to no other rose, and the multiple petals!!
ReplyDeleteHi GM! I wanted to let you know that I picked up 2 Gladys Taber books from the library yesterday based on your post about them. I had never heard of her before. Stillmeadow Seasons, Harvest at Stillmeadow. I rather do like her writing style, the font is easy and this so far is a very nice read. I had to get them from another library in the system as our branch did not carry them. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a tad of cooler weather GM. We got a good little shower yesterday but I think it just made the humidity worse here. Though, WE NEED RAIN SO BADLY. Hope your week is wonderful. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea with the lamp base and the light fixture. So clever! Our roses have black spot, too, especially this year, but the blossoms are beautiful, so I don't fuss with them. Queen Elizabeth looks like a beauty.
ReplyDeleteWe have an old Queen Elizabeth rose too, and even though we prune it, it does still get very tall. Since shes' a Queen, I guess we could call her "stately" I like your new lamp base vase.
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty roses! I used to enjoy washing the Depression glass that I had displayed also...very theraputic:)
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty flowers and I love how you repurposed the lamp base
ReplyDeleteYou are so artistic! I would never have dreamed of doing that with the floating flowers, base, etc.
