Thrifty Finds

Well, I managed to honour National Thrift Day by finding more treasures.  Right here I'll answer the question of where do I keep all the 'stuff' I buy. Just this week I packed up 4 big boxes to donate. Things that gave me pleasure for months or years and now I passed them on to others that might want them. It's a harmless 'hobby'. Might even be my one vice.   I do have cupboard space to keep many of my treasures that are not on display. Believe it or not I even found a cupboard with an empty shelf!!

So here are my finds.

This piece will find a home in the garden. I can imagine an ivy growing in it. By the looks of the bottom it had dirt in it at one time.

We can always use more pretty coasters around here. There are 2  each of 3 different pictures. I like the cute box they came in too.

This pretty oversized mug caught my eye.  Made in Portugal and the loveliest shade of blue with a tiny bird on the handle. How could I not love it?  I plan on using it to keep things in.  Paper clips?

Of course I had to browse in the book dept. None of these cost more than $2. I think DH will also enjoy these.  I'll put the Christmas one away until December.

Finishing my post with some pictures taken by my DIL of the gorgeous morning sky.

Thanks for visiting today.  I hope you are having a good day.

  6. Dear GM, what? no teacup or saucer...I like that oversized cup with the bird, such a pretty color and rather whimsical. All of your finds are lovely. I get the urge to shop, I just took alot of stuff in as you did, for someone else to love as I did. So I will resist the urge for now. Pretty pictures, nature is the best canvas.

  8. The coasters are illustrated by Marjolein Bastin. She is Dutch and very well known in the Netherlands by women of a certain age (I'm 45, so my age and above). I recognized the illustrations right away. Lovely!

  9. You found some beautiful treasures. I had a box of coasters very similar to those at one time. They were donated when we moved out of our house in Spokane. You'll be reading that Christmas book before you know it. Time seems to fly these days.

  10. You always find the nicest things at the thrift store. The one here by us has mostly junk - the stuff people couldn't sell at their yard sale!

  11. What a beautiful morning-sky!
I also love the big light-blue cup with the bird. A very nice piece!
I think it is a nice hobby to collect secondhand-decorations and later to give them to other people, who will enjoy. I cannot imagine, that you have any empty place in your house :) like me!! :)))

Christmas will approach more fast, than we think today. Good to think about Christmas in time.

  20. If thrift shopping is your vice, you are getting by cheaply. Your treasures are things that bring you pleasure to look at. And we sure have fun seeing them.

  22. I have wondered where you keep all the items that are not currently on display, and you've answered my question! It's really wonderful to redonate. I do it a lot too. And it supports the important charities that these thrift stores support, so it's a win/win! The coasters are really pretty :)
