Shrove Tuesday

I'm writing this today ( Monday) since I anticipate being busy tomorrow and I might not have time to post.  Are you planning on pancakes tomorrow?  We'll have crepes, which we both really enjoy. We roll them up with cottage cheese then cover them with blueberry sauce. The picture is one I took the last time we had them. I'm glad DH is as fond of them as I am so we can have them often.

I bought a kitchen scale on the weekend.  When I was getting the ingredients for bread into the breadmaker I measured the 4 1/2 cups of flour the way I've always done it. I scoop the flour out of the bag and shake it a bit to level it. I put that amount into a bowl then weighed it on my scale.  4 1/2 cups should, according to the chart on-line, weigh 562 grams....I had to take out about 1 Tbsp of flour, that's how close I was.

I baked Biscotti today and totally forgot to weigh the flour. They turned out fine any way.

I hope your week is off to a good start.

Thanks for visiting,

Granny M.

  2. The crepes look delicious. Measuring by weight is so much more accurate, I find.

  3. I had never heard of Shrove Tuesday until I joined the blogging world. Hubby isn't too fond of pancakes but I am so I may make some for myself. Those crepes look amazing. Is that regular cottage cheese? It looks so smooth in the photo!
    Blessings and hugs,

  4. I hope you have a successful busy day today! My husband and me love crepes, too. We use happy eggs from my little farm, milk and applesauce. Easy to make and very delicious. Your crepes look VERY delicious! Good idea to test this variant.

  10. I LOVE crepes, too!!! I totally forgot this was Fat Tuesday!
Louis Dean always uses a scale when he bakes his cinnamon rolls or dinner rolls. They are ALL exactly the very same size!!

  11. I also have a kitchen scale, but I rarely use them... Eye measuring works for me too :-)
Your crapes look wonderful, I would taste very good.
I had pancakes on Shrove Monday and Shrove Tuesday... I buy them from the selected baker - they are so good that I don't bake them myself.
    Many greetings to you.

  12. I've never weighed flour. Our receipes always give cup or ounces for the measurement so no need to weigh most items. I've not made crepes, and pancakes I've not made in years. I like French toast with syrup, but most generally make an omlet when we're having a brunch.

  13. I was unaware that pancakes, or crepes, were a tradition but a French blogger mentioned them a week or so ago for another named day, both with religious significance. Growing up we never heard of Fat Tuesday.
    Your crepes look delicious.

  14. I bought a kitchen scale at the thrift store last year and it has been a big help with my canning. Makes me wonder how I managed without one all these years! ;-)

  16. I do like crepes, and yours do look lovely. With all that baking your place must smell wonderful. I do have a scale, it comes in hand for those recipes which do not have the standard measurements.
