A beautiful walk again this morning. The lake was quiet...how I wish the city had removed more of the water lilies before they returned that machine. They only had it 3 days.
Several requests for the savory Monkey Bread recipe. I don't think Middle Son used a recipe. He used an ordinary recipe for buns and when they were ready to form he dipped them into a mixture of butter
( or margarine) and finely chopped garlic. As he layered them in the pan he sprinkled them liberally with cheese. He's quite creative when he bakes ( except for bread for which he sticks to his regular recipe.) We agree that anything homemade is going to taste at the very least edible and sometimes delicious.
On the subject of baking I think I'll be doing just that on the weekend when we're (hopefully) having a rainy day or two.
Thanks for visiting,
We're hoping for rain too.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing how your son does his savory monkey bread.
ReplyDeleteAnd I like your last picture.
Hello GM, I have been catching up on your last few posts. My what a lovely and peaceful summer you have been having. It does sail by rather quickly doesn't it? I see you have passed on your love of baking to the next generation. The cakes are lovely and the monkey bread certainly looks delish. I should hang a copy of your quote on housekeeping on my fridge to remind me to look to the rewards of hard work when I am feeling lazy and grumpy (which has been rather too often this summer!) Blessings to you this day.
ReplyDeleteThat is a bunch of water lilies, they seem to grow well there.
ReplyDeletewhat a pretty picture. Why do you want the water lilies gone? I do not care for sweet monkey bread it always seems to sweet and sticky for my but this oh I could get into this and dip it in sauce.
ReplyDeleteCathy
I love that quote. That sounds like my daughter..she will maybe follow as recipe once, then the next time maybe add this and that and leave out something.
ReplyDeleteYou made his monkey bread sound quite simple to make. I'm going to be trying it this fall when I start making soup again. As soon as the weather starts getting cool and crispy I love hot soup and homemade bread.
ReplyDeleteThese last few mornings have been great walking weather here too!!!
ReplyDeleteThat bread sounds wonderful! Sad about the water lilies, they do like to spread.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry more of the lilies could not get cleaned up, I know it is hard to see them take over. The savory Monkey bread sounds great! I love to try new things, and this is a great idea! Blessings to you!
ReplyDeleteHomemade always is the best because of LOVE inside.
ReplyDeleteThe sea is very green.
Soon the pumpkins will fill our gardens , houses, decorations, food and mind!
I like waterlilies, but they do have a bad habit of taking over if not controlled, don't they?
ReplyDeleteI am so ready for pumpkin season. Son's Monkey Bread sounds good, I make a sweeter version. I use canned biscuits cut each one in half and roll into a ball. Roll in melted butter, then roll in a cinnamon sugar mixture. Stack each one in a bundt cake pan and bake in the oven. Sorry, right now I can't remember the oven temp or how long, but you can tell when they're done by looking at them.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, homemade is delicious :-)))
ReplyDeleteI have a loaf of bread in the oven... best regards from Viola
